I'd rather miss out than scrape into the 8 and play someone like Adelaide over there in an elimination final.

Finals teams are more attractive as a destination club.

Whilst we don't have a first round pick, assuming TDK stays, we do have a 2nd round pick to offer for a player, out of contract and determined to play for us, and we do have future first and 2nd round picks to offer too.

With Hawthorn owning our first I cannot agree with that

The worst feeling for a Carlton fan is to miss Finals.
To think of what could have been, and to see who lifts for the occasion.

We weren't expected to beat Richmond in the 2013 Elimination Final.
My young boys replayed that game for the next 5 years. Nothing else came close to that for 10 years after 2013.
Thank god for that game. We don't do Wiggles.

Honestly I'm pretty used to missing finals....

Look if we strung together enough wins and made it that way I'd be happy with that. But a repeat of last year, falling in because another team was more shit than us - yuck.

In 2013 we did win our last game to make it as well.

I get it, but last year was a good effort to make the finals given our awful injury toll throughout the year.

We werent expected to beat Lions at Gabba with the kids (Lord, Moir  Binns), nor with the rushed back underdone players (Doc, TDK and Cerra).
Fact. No one picked us to win. No one. I didn't, and I won my bets.

Nevertheless, typical of some Carlton fans, instead of appreciating the effort it took of reaching Finals, against the odds, fans turned onto Voss and blamed his selections for the loss  then blamed the loss on TDK as a sub. TDK couldn't play 4 quarters but some Carlton fans thought...no no...knew he would and won it for us. Just looking for scapegoats instead of dealing with reality. We made up the numbers.

We were never going to win that game. Lions were running hot and the game was on their home ground.

We lost because we had limped into the Finals, and didnt have Curnow playing

Brain vs Brawn - Good chat.

Champion data says Blues #1 for Brawn (contested possession) - #18 for Brains (Ball usage). :yikes: :yikes: :yikes: :yikes:

Thanks for this link Cazz.

I don't like how he's apologetic about the ball use of Sydney with Papley and Gulden out of the 5 out, but fails to mention anything about the possible change of fortune for Carlton when Newman and Williams of the 11 out injured return.

TDK isn't rated as high as Jackson, Xerri and Gawn, and doesn't get a mention.

Feel they like to ridicule Carlton with the smirks , giggles and mockery that goes on when discussing our IQ. May be something in that but if you don't pick up the mockery, you must has developed a thick skin over the last 20 years.

Next week's show they will focus on Carlton's IQ out of interest.....click bait. I'm not denying there's something in what they present, but factorsome bias and desire for click bait with the side commentary outside the stats.

We have to get better. I have no doubt Smith will give us some speed and steadiness out of the middle. Maybe our HB's are not pressing as high as before to collect the ball we win in the middle....because they don't think we'll win it despite the stats that say we do?

Tomorrow's game will shape our season big time if we win.
If we lose, it will be against the team that we want to replace in the 8.
If we win, we will be reminded of the depleted GWS midfield.

Its time to bump the first posts of this thread.

There will always be questions raising doubt about Carlton, for good reason.
30 years since a Flag.

Have we lost our way? Do we have an underlying cultural problem?
Will we work our way the the 17th sooner than later?

New season.

New excitement.

New disappointments.

New players.

New coaches?

Will be interesting.

Honestly beyond giving a @#$%&!.

Sorry everyone but this club is breaking me.

I have no idea why we are so pathologicaly [REDACTED] but we are and I’m really struggling with how to be a St Kilda type footy fan.

There's a good article in the Age I forgot to share.
The Postogoclou success reminded me of this article which both remind me of how powerful it is committed to your plan, and to your belief, with a commitment to best practice.

Article touches on the Elijah issue and the TDK question, and everything that makes Carlton, from a business perspective, and that body's positive effect on Carlton footy team and the extended Carlton family. Its interwoven and its unique to Carlton.

He's a snippet, and may explain why players want to come to Carlton, and once here, want to stay. May give you some confidence in Carlton's future, with or without DeKoning.

Quote:
Carlton might be best known for their blustering billionaires, but the club has also long found support in its quieter fans, such as Didier, who claim to seek little influence over club decisions.
Tony Gandel, son of property magnate John, is another such figure who is deeply tied to the navy Blues but is rarely publicly linked to the club.
Tony Gandel is a quieter figure around Carlton Football Club but from a family that is worth a cool $7 billion.

The Gandels, like the Pratts, are stonkingly rich.

Led by octogenarian John, the family is worth $7 billion, thanks to a half-ownership of Chadstone Shopping Centre, itself worth a cool $3.3 billion, and a near $1.8 billion stake in national shopping mall owner Vicinity.
... Tony Gandel often attends the club’s headquarters and makes use of its facilities, including its gym.
He’s also been close to retiring players looking to go into business, including, notably, helping former captain Chris Judd set up his investment business Cerutty Macro Fund.

The sources confirmed that Gandel had, in the past, been sounded out for a board position but has declined.
“He prefers to keep a low profile,” one of the sources says.
It’s business figures such as Gandel and Didier – the former a wealthy Toorak heir who runs his family’s investment office, the latter a self-made man from Melbourne’s north-eastern suburbs – who are key drawcards for the club’s “Carlton in Business” program.

The networking extravaganza has proven popular with entrepreneurs who are looking to grow their businesses and larger companies – such as Virgin, Penfolds, Hyundai, Ampol and Fujitsu – looking to also build their networks and spruik their wares.

A full membership starts at $13,300 and provides access to the club’s facilities and an array of networking events, including a grand final luncheon and a spring racing carnival shindig in the ultra-elite private rooms away from the (relative) riffraff of influencers and journalists in the Birdcage at Flemington.

There are also frequent networking luncheons at Crown Palladium that bring together big business, investors and, importantly for the club, players.
It’s a way of showcasing to young, and older players, the ties that Carlton have to business and the opportunities that await after football.

It’s little surprise then that Tom De Koning has been duchessed at the past three events in the hope that the free agent re-signs with the club.

Article goes on and I'm sure Elijah is in good hands and has all of InBusiness behind him.

Carlton’s last 20 games 6-14.

Beat Eagles twice, Roos twice, Saints once and the Cats once.
