i've never seen anything from durdin suggesting he's going to be good?

his first game this year where he roved like a small forward and tackled and chased and applied pressure and even went the billy elliot speccy. i thought i may have had him wrong all along.

but that performance was clearly the outlier in his career so far. never done anything like that before, or ever since. a shame. one of these small forwards could have really made the position all theirs this season, but nope. NOPE!


incidentally. for all the talk about key position forwards and how essential they are.

i dare say a fleet of small forwards like hawks, pies or cats is probably more of a winning combination. a good defensive key forward who can be a target and bring it to ground/ create a contest and spoil and disrupt the intercept & fast rebound game of the oppo ...

... is way more effective than a two or three headed monster we are running and a bunch of actual potatoes that we bring it to the ground to.

but you have to run and carry and be efficient and use the corridor, and ball use is king in that system. and we have not drafted skilled, smart and selfless players who could execute such things.

Once again, they do a great job in showing the non believers how embarrassing our game plan and development is... 4 years on ffs

Interesting where O Hollands is rated (234th of 258 players with 15+ kicks inside 50).

He tries his guts out and is a solid player but it's a shame he's not very damaging.

He didn't ask to be picked where he was picked but it shows again the drafting has been poor.

An outside player who doesn't really hurt the opposition. On the other wing you have Acres who also works very hard but butchers it too much.

We really lack a Gryan Miers type, but it's not just the player kicking...it's about mid/forward connection...leading to certain spots in the ground even if you aren't going to be used by the kicker...working together to drag defenders away and create space.

It's obvious isn't it? I've been wondering the same thing myself the last couple of years....why do we rarely kick to the advantage of the fwd?

Who is the fwd/mid coach?

Motlop after 51 games - 49 goals

I couldn't believe that stat when I saw it so I looked it up myself
Difference is Eddie was 2 1/2 seasons to get to 51 games
Motlop is into his 4th season

I wonder back in 2007 were we saying why is Eddie getting a game

absolutely ... he would even have some excellent head coach ability within a few years of that, imo

I think we're a huge chance of winning the next four games. And that will leave us at 8-7. IF we can get a bit of confidence and flow into our game (and it's a massive IF), we might be able to snaffle another four or so wins against teams whose season has faltered.

I think we'll be OK against Essendon*, mainly because of their injuries

North & West Coast have both shown a bit lately, not totally confident about those games

If I remember correctly, we were pretty ordinary in some of those years. Eddie would have been second to Fev on our goal kicking list.

With Port beating GWS a loss to Essendon* will entrench us in the bottom 4.

A far cry from the top 4 that was being touted around in the preseason.

This is a result of total incompetence in list management. They over valued the players.
The list manager like most of the supporters were star struck how could a team containing Weiters Saad TDK Cripps Cerra Walsh Harry and Charlie not finish top 4.

Well we are bottom 4 and it's because they failed at the draft and didn't bring in established players to improve the depth and let players go that could of helped with that depth

Bottom 4 … yeah I know that changes if we beat Effendopes… but looking at it and it really sinks in.

We haven’t lost a game with less than 8 out injured. Injuries that tested the robustness of the list.
Tomorrow we go in against Effendopes with 6 out injured

Let’s hope we can stay fit till the last day of Sept. It won’t change the fact Austin’s list isn’t balanced.

the club as a whole, overvalued and overrated the list, the coach, the coaching staff, and themselves. they're a pretty arrogant bunch, imo

Need to stop making injury an excuse. Other teams have similar numbers/quality unavailable and have put Carlton to the sword.

Our list lacks depth with too many young players. Injuries affect us much more than other teams right now.

it's almost negligent, (the powers that be) that thought this would be a carlton list vying for top 4.

so many holes, not batting deep enough and on top of that a bunch of veterans who no longer seem willing or able to pay the physical price for afl success

Except we know that the same guys are going to be injured each year. What plans are devised to make the most of the players we have available?

Why did the club not put Newman on the LTI and replace him with someone fit? A 6 month contract for, example, Parfitt who’s killing it in the WAFL, is AFL harden and from a good system. Seriously, what value in Newman going to be for 6 games

Our depth is shit because we make stupid decisions.
