In Today's Age article Caro states that a reason for the lack of $$$ is the loss of Home ground naming rights as Optus Oval.
Dear Caro,
We played one game there last year and have no games scheduled there this year.
It is now a training Venue only.

Our 2 Home grounds have names such as the G and Telstra Dome so I'm not sure how you expect any club including ours to gain a naming rights sponsor at Home Grounds.
Home Grounds are a thing of the past. The Lexus centre now lacks its main mouth piece as he's in Sydney.
Which club should have nameing rights to the Dome and how silly would it be if the Dome was called something different when ever a different team played there.
Some of us never stopped calling the OO ,PP so how would people go calling the Dome or the G something different every Fri, saturday and Sunday.

You idiot!

The funds are lacking as the Social Club being is at best "Poor"

Doesn't she mean that if we were still playing games at OO we would have not only the naming rights dollars from Optus but also sponsorship around the ground?

If we still had those revenue streams things wouldn't look so bad.

The Social Club may be lacking, but geez did they see me coming at the intraclub match. No change from $10 for a bottle of water and a Coke. Collo must on the Social Club board...

its a combination of things.

1. no monies from the SC
2. no monies from Ground Name Rights
3. no monies from Sponsorship around the ground

this is all lost revenue that we are proably only getting a portion of compared to what we where getting at OO.

but of course, being shown on tv 10 times a year, is all that matters.

Yes, but we'd be in the position where crowd numbers were capped at ~30,000 and where no opposition supporters want to turn up.

OO was great for die-hards who go to every game and sit in the same reserved seat, but for opposition supporters and casual Carlton fans it was a shitty place to go to.

Have you not noticed that the fence signage at the G and TD changes depending on who is hosting the game?

Moreover, it was our refusal to do this at Princes Park that contributed to the many reasons for the ground not being attractive for other clubs to play home games there.

actually we will probably have to close the social club owing to the nasty tax debt that was developed a few years ago and shoved underthe rug

Re the Social Club.I was a foundation Member(IIRC,1967) until i was transferred overseas in 1985.On return to OZ i found myself in Sydney and subsequently re-joined.

My visits back to PP were few and far between and with regards the Social Club, the Farewell Game was my first return to that part of the Ground for 20 years..

Observation?????....An absolute time warp, just a deteriorating asset that had not kept pace with current consumer expectations. In fact it was endemic of the whole place including the newer facilities....just soooooo tacky!

Nobody loved the place more than me and i had been there more than most.Sometimes though you need to take a step away!

The current Social club member's conditions still don't compare with Princes Park. I know quite a few who have downgraded to silver memberships because they see no value in the social club package anymore. I thought the club would have looked after loyal premium paying members better.
