Brilliant get. From memory Simmo was a huge Carlton fan growing up so hopefully that swayed him.
He'll be great value. Loving most of the off season moves being made by the club this year.

Yes , and the thing is several Clubs were eager to gain his services and in the end he chose Carlton . Holy shit , we may just start to become a destination Club .

Good move to get the coaches a coach, because let’s face it, they left a lot undone this year and losing a PF six goals up at QT speaks to a certain lack of polish. not sure Simpson was the go to given how pathetic WCE Eagles have performed for a few seasons but i wouldn’t really know how much that’s on him and how much other factors came into it like list manager and administrators overusing him.

a fresh set of eyes and a sounding board for the coaches is good. hopefully the start to question their ‘one wood’ fixation and start trying a few more tactics and innovations. no rest for the wicked and we were useless this year.
Dew was terrible at Gold Coast but a massive success as Fagan understudy
Bolton disaster at Carlton worked well with Macrae and Clarkson
Justin Leppitsch disaster at Lions huge success under Hardwick and Macrae

Simpson has won a flag although his last few years were not good that doesn't mean a lot

Simpson barracked for Carlton as a kid. As did Davies and Voss. Some decent content in the works I would've thought...

To make you all feel a bit old - at the time of the club's last premiership, Voss was aged 20, Simpson 19 and Davies 16.

Makes me feel ancient as that 95 Flag was the 9th in my lifetime .

Ok it's great that we have lured him, but.....what exactly are his duties under this position description?

It seems like an extremely vague appointment - he won't be at the club regularly, won't be involved on matchday.

So, what exactly is he going to do? And how exactly is it going to benefit Voss and Carlton as a whole?

Not to mention MPH78 was 17

God knows us rusted on deserve some new success.

I didn't realise Vossy was 50! Thought he was younger than me, and I was a teenager at our last flag.

Bring it on. I've always like the guy.

Massive statement from the club IMO. He does want to coach again right? He's only 49

I was 23… foolish enough to think, yeah, nah I'll watch this on the couch in Canberra but I'll go to the next one. It won't be long.

To be honest I don't really understand this Simpson role. Will he be at games, doing his analysis? If so, could see the media having a field day zooming in on him and then Voss if things aren't going well, like the constant (and hilarious) cuts to a glowering Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford. If he's sitting on the couch and then catching up with Vossy for a quiet chat during the week, does he add any real value? How effective was Walls in (what i believe was) a similar role, does it just result in ego clashes and undermined authority? Will Simpson still be in a media role?

It's a mentor role like we've had Robert Walls do in the past and I understand Voss has used Lethal a little bit so far.
But I guess he's a bit more involved than those guys because he's not specific to Voss but rather the broader coaching group.
The red beard guy Greaves who left this year was doing something along these lines except he didn't have senior coaching experience let alone a premiership.
Greaves was however present on match days but unclear what he was actually doing.

Great leaders from all walks have mentors, coaches, advisors. Great leaders are open to feedback, someone holding a mirror, a voice of reason……great leaders are not shy in asking for support.

The opportunity sits with Michael V and those around him to leverage the likes of Simpson, Boak.

Oh so we should just appoint anyone and anyone who's a big name, without a clear and defined role & measurable KPIs just because we're Carlton and @#$%&! the rest yeah?!

Just because we haven't been told doesn't mean there isn't a defined role with measurable KPIs.
Did Simpson kick your dog?

It sounds like it’s less Robert Walls (mentor to the head coach) and more Neil Craig (overseeing the full coaching setup).
