Was thinking about this before. If the financial situation is as parlous as is being made out then we'd be stupid not to give it a real crack. Financially it's like winning the flag even if the same prestige isn't there.

I mean that there isn't the same prestige in winning the pre-season competition as there is in winning the Premiership in September. But financially, you only get $30k less or something for winning the NAB Cup than you do the Premiership.

Financially it would be wouldn't it in terms of prize money? Isn't the Wizard Cup worth half of winning the real flag? It wouldn't help so much in terms of sponsorship or increased memberships as much though.

If we won the real flag we'd be back in business. Massive crowds, Membership, sponsors, Friday night Carlton at the dome every fortnight. Don't underestimate the value of success to a former powerful club.

I'm sure winning it last year resulted in a lot of undecideds signing up, thinking it would continue into the real season. (Pity it was all false hope).

Yes but you are misinterpreting what I am saying Game.

Of course I want to win the real flag and of course I understand the ramifications of winning the flag. I understand the importance of success.

All I am saying is that winning the NAB Cup would bring some much needed money into the Carlton coffers. As I said you only get $30k less for winning the pre-season comp than the actual flag in September (which I reckon is pretty bizarre personally!).

No they signed because Pagan extended his contract. Some fans go just to marvel at the great man.
