He will hardly be able to jog at 33 let alone play footy :screwy:

Another example of players being money hungry and / or allowing their managers to do business to get the max for their client
Given Walsh’s injury just history ludicrous but that’s the AFL landscape now
Gone are the days of Swan McKay having 12000 shake hands deals

A fit Walsh is good for the club but the club should not accept that offer

High draft picks who display excellent form for a couple of season like Walsh
Well I really question their reasons for playing for any club
Despite changing times the issues are many
Walsh is a grinder not a match winner
Hold the club to ransom with free agency on the horizon
I really dislike how top level sport continues to be driven more an more each year by the dollar
Sad but true

Hard to blame players too much - the player agents are mercenary and they are dealing generally with "their mates" in the football departments who are running clubs, everyone is scratching backs and there is no club loyalty.

The "grinder" was a Gary Ayres medallist a couple of years ago. The best player within the AFL in a finals series.
The funny part is, if we let him walk for nothing, you'd be whinging about that as well. 7 years if the dollars are not too much is fine. The bloke will be our captain next year and probably should be this year. Numerous top 3 finishes in our B&F, All Australian, Gary Ayres medallist, John Nicholls medallist. Give me grinders of that calibre any day of the week..

I think we forget how good his finals series in 2023 was.

Also matched Judd and Diesel for the highest number of Brownlow votes by a Carlton player (2021).

Only surpassed by Cripps’ second win.

I know the Brownlow has its issues but if he’d won it that year we’d be discussing him very differently.

Walsh is absolutely a match winner when he is fit and firing. Him paired with Jagga as we have been seeing in the pre-season is salivating. Run and more run.

But caveat is when Walsh is fit.

His kicking needs to be fixed but happy for him to run and handball all day. And just get the ball generally.

I will be ecstatic if it happens. Not getting excited until it happens but Walsh is a gun and someone we desperately require now and moving forward.

Curnow, TDK and JSOS leave: the club is a shambles, sinking ship, playing list has been mismanaged.

Highest profile free agent wants to stay immediately after mass exodus of above: the club is a shambles, 7 years for Walsh, the playing list is being mismanaged.

Honestly, no wonder our fanbase is the laughing stock of the league.

Really happy if Walsh stays. Even if we get 5 good years out of the 7, it will be worth it.

With regards to the 3 players who left:

Curnow ... highly talented but lazy footballer who has been terrible the last 2 years. In finals he was a non contributor. He looked hopeless at full forward and from what I understand he caused problems within the club.
Silvagni ... one of the most competitive players at the club but dogged by injuries. Also a disruptive element.
TDK ... extremely talented big man who is only going to get better. I don't think you can pay a ruckman the sort of money the Saints layed out. Will be missed but we made the right decision.

Overall ... looks like the correct decision on all 3 players.

My only disappointment with the club this year was the appointment of Adam Simpson. It would be a disaster if he ended up coaching us.

Derksen takes White’s train-on spot.

https://www.carltonfc.com.au/news/19536 ... in-on-spot

Thanks for your efforts Will, but I think it’s the right call.

Derksen and/or E.Hollands to be SSP’ed now presumably.
