We are going to be the first domino to fall in getting Dean Cox sacked by round 6.

Reckon we will surprise and knock this mob off on there own dunghill . On what I've seen at training and practise matches I reckon selection reflects pre season form . And a nice blend of newcomers with our old experienced warhorses . As far as McGovern , Fogarty and Saad go to my eye they have trained the house down . Plenty of time for the younger brigade to show there where's in the Magoo's . Its a long season . They will get there chance .

I'm with you Mick.

After I looked at the team I looked at the height of the Sydney players and they have 3 talls in their F50 (2 x 195cm and 1 x 194cm) and Grundy as ruck.

Our defenders are Young at 202cm, Weiters at 195cm and Dean at 193cm. McLovin is only 190cm and still shorter than Serong at 193cm.
So it makes sense having a tall defence, the only argument is would've Derksen provided better support than McLovin, but being less experienced it was a risk.

And we only have Mckay as a tall and Kemp at 192cm so having Reidy as a 3rd tall/ruck back up makes sense also.

Fogarty plays a great defensive role and as long as he can get a handful of goals assists or free up Hayward and Ainsworth, I'm happy with that.
Saad will perform, at a guess he'll wear Rosas like a glove and Florent will be all over Papley.

It is our midfield that worries me more, on paper they have far more superior speed and skill than we do.
I just hope Chesser, Lord, Smith and even Williams are heavy on the midfield rotations to counter them.

I am optimistically confident.

Yep our midfield is my main worry for tonight. Heeney, Gulden and Warner. They just bust through the lines with speed.

I dont think we have had anyone to go with them in the past.

And i may be in the minority, but Cripps is looking slower this year. In my eyes. If he doesnt extract the ball, he doesnt do much else.

Chesser, Lord are very important as they have big bodies.

Smith, i hope he doesnt get too overworked and outbodied so dont expect him to chase tail all game.

It'll be a good litmus test at the least anyway.
Especially when the wider football community thinks that adding Charlie all of a sudden makes them a top 4 team.

I'm with you Mick. 7 new faces, including 2 first gamers is alot. I wouldn't be surprised if Fog ran alongside Blakey at every opportunity. Gov and Saad can now prove they belong, as other return to fitness.

As much as I would have been excited to see Byrne, it may have been 1 step to far for the Match Committee, against a seasoned Swans team. As you said, he will get his chance.

Regards Cazzesman

Another couple of debutants wouldn't hurt IMO. It's not like Jagga is an inexperienced battler finding his way.
If I was coaching Sydney I'd tell Charlie to start around 20m out and lead to 50-60m from goal. Weitering wont go with him. He'll do what he does when Taylor Walker plays the same game. Drop off him and run back inside 50 to assist. Like Walker, Charlie will put it over his head post high.
Derksen was the best match up IMHO if Charlie plays as a higher forward. You can't throw Dean to the wolves against him and Young's height will be required elsewhere.

Ask for the forward line, we have Hayward playing the 3rd tall role. Moir offers the same but to lesser quality. Byrne is the only small who has shown an ability to crumb the ball and capitalise. He offer a point of difference we are desperate for. We'll have Reidy and Harry trying to contest and bring the ball to ground and who's doing the ground work and capitalising? Fog? Yes, Byrne has plenty of time but as a team, we don't. You pick the team with the best chance to win every week and Byrne is in mine 100%.

Ainsworth, Smith and Hayward.

That should be enough coverage.

I like Byrne also and what he brings, but he's only played a quarter in each game.
Build his tank up in the VFL first.

I read that one of our forwards might be injured and Byrne may come in for his first game.
Anyone else heard this?
