so, a little backstory - I've been living in the Uk for 14 years, and missed live footy terribly. I've been back to Oz a few times, but never in footy season. I have watched games mostly delayed via laptop and watchafl.com

I was really excited to get back into the passion and energy footy used to bring me. I missed the footy banter at work and with mates. I couldnt wait to get back into it all

I got to the preseason game last week and it felt like coming home. There were a lot of issues but i figured it was just a hit and giggle before the real stuff starts

I've been waiting 14 years for tonight. 14 long cold dark years

I was pissed off last year, I thought the brisbane final in 24 was diabolical, but last year was pretty bad after so much joy in 23

i thought we would be better with the inclusion of the swannie boys and Ainsworth, I was excited to have jagga, Dean and a fit walsh, and I was glad curnow packed his bags.

i felt last year was a watershed and having doc move on and curnow leave, some of the poison around the club would disappear.

and maybe it has

but it has taken 3 quarters of the first game of the year to destroy all my hopes for the yar and for the club that i have supportted for 50 years and been a member of for 34

to give up 75 points in less than a quarter is disgusting

we had some serious experience on the park tonight, rising stars, all australians, coleman and brownlow medalists.

and we have up 12 goals in a quarter.

Voss and his team had a whole preseason to work on the forward 50 entries. they were shit against geelong, and they were pathetic in the first half. we cost ourselves at least 5 goals, which could have been enough to keep the swans deflated and get the win

but we didnt coz either our coaching sux, our players are dumb and cant follow instructions, they arent playing for each other or the coach, or all 3

then they got 4 goal up in the third and left the park

where is the desperation? i'm not going to single out individuals for kicking out on the full, or turnovers galore, or lack of chasing, or tackling, or not making space or leading - most of us watched the game and know the culprits

the point of this longwinded, overly worded post is that NOTHING HAS CHANGED at this football club over the preseason.

same old shit game plan

same old lack of a back up plan

same old lack of player movement

same old lack of accountability

same old players turning it over and flowering it up

same old one paced players (new kids exempt)

same old kicking it on the forwards heads and watching the opposition run off

same old gutless efforts

same old players trying to take the game on only to @#$%&! it up as they are too slow and not skilled enough

same old preseason bluster about resetting and accountability and players camps where truths were spoken and everyone is on the same page

SAME BULLSHIT, DIFFERENT SEASON

it took 3/4s of a game for me to hate my club, and for the joy i was anticipating to evaporate out of me like air in a punctured tyre

a close loss i could have accepted, but the drivel that was dished up in the third quarter? @#$%&! me, this club plays us for fools. i now want to bury my head in the sand, and see if I can find anyone with a dumptruck full of manure

@#$%&! this club

I feel you bender... the big problem is it's only just the beginning. We're on the precipice of another 2015 - 19 era. We have recruited so poorly that we now have a list that is slow and unskilled. The AFL have happily watched Collingwood, Brisbane, Gold Coast, Bulldogs, and Sydney fill their boots with father son's and academy picks for sweet FA, but now that we have prospects it's going to cost us the earth.

Harry Dean was the most expensive father son in the history of the draft and they're still not satisfied. Cody Walker, would have been borderline unobtainable but for the fact that we're going to finish bottom 5.

But this is where it gets really depressing. Our list needs to be majorly overhauled, but once again we find ourselves needing to do it as the draft becomes totally compromised by an incoming new club. De ja vu much? We needed to rebuild right as Gold Coast and GWS came into the competition. It's going to happen again.

At least last night burst any bubble that might have deluded us as to where we stand. Strap yourselves in folks. We know how this story goes. The downward spiral has just begun

Did better than me. I turned off half way through the second. We were dominating on the ground but not on the scoreboard and just knew when the Swans shifted gears we wouldn't keep up with them.

All I wanted was a contest and reward for effort. Is that too much to ask?

I think it’s a lot more than just a poor list

For me, the club doesn’t have a winning mentality. The losing culture has become so ingrained that we are simply shuffling chairs on a sinking ship.

The club needs to develop its ruthless edge. We are too nice.

Hopefully with GW at the helm this mediocrity slowly erodes.

Can’t keep going through these vicious cycles where we continually have to rebuild our club, list etc. The great clubs remain successful as they replenish and not go through these boom or bust cycles that we continually go through.

Possibly the most depressing part of all this is that once upon a time I could feel like this for free.

Now I have to pay a monthly subscription for the pleasure.
