You will. I will be celebrating when we win well on a regular basis. I want nothing more for my club.

that was worse than last week

but ...

forget lynch 2.7, he had a couple soft free kicks paid, the rest where pretty much against the boundary line. Either Richmond was sending him there, or we where forcing them wide with our structure, making the shots on goal harder.

they got some tin arse freekicks that lead to direct goals. yeah yeah, we only one by 4 points, but if not for the interaction of the umpires it would have been 9 goals to 2 in the first half..

what i find frustrating is

young ... we know what we are going to get, yet we have Derksen who we don't know about. Lets role the dice and play him. It cant be worse.
fogarty ... abit the same for me. we know what his limit is. Bryne, looks more likely already.
cripps ... I couldn't believe the stats after the game. 32 possessions. he seems a mile off at the moment
mckay ... needs to be played at CHF. He is not a full forward, we need Kemp to take that mantle, and at the very least if he cant take the grab, bring it to grounds for the likes of Ainsworth / Haywood / Bryne
lij ... possible our worst game for us.
chesser ... I'm not sold on yet either ... he was cheap, for a reason it seems at the moment.
lack of talk ... too many run down scenarios ... can they not hear, or are we not communicating.

I didn't mind the move of McGovern forward.

the interesting aspect for me is the stand on the mark rule. we simple cant defend the overlap. it burns us so easily. Gulden/Swans put on an exhibition last week, Richmond in the 2nd half did the same thing ... but what i found interesting, if we had the same scenario, there was a Richmond player about 7 to 10m behind the mark, to stop the overlap and run ...

i was as flat as anyone last night ... but we are still a team that has close to half its side, not being familiar with each other. its going to take time.

Preseason you'd happily take being 1-1 after the first two games....except we played maybe 3 decent qtrs.

I noticed that in the 4th when HOK had the ball outside the 50 and he was waiting for someone to present, no one did so he just kicked it to a dangerous spot and the Tigers defender marked it without any pressure.
That pretty much sums up our F50 entries.

That worked best when McLovin was at CHF and McKay was at FF, in the first quarter of course.

We definitely are the Fitzroy of the competition. Every team feels like they can beat us and we feel like any team can beat us. Too many years of scarring.

Adem Yze was interviewed at half time and was frustrated that his players deviated from the plan devised "to beat this team"... Carlton. Clearly they adjusted after the break lead by their pressure at the contest which made a few of our boys shit the bed and turn it over... against kids.

Ch7 also aired a still showing how we commit more players to the contest whereas the Tigers had 3-4 players out the back in a line waiting for the spill and rebound.

As we all know. it's how we defend when we don't have the ball that kills us... no structures, no plan to nullify an opposition player... just rely on plan A.

And like the Fitzroy of old our good players get plundered .

Pros:

We somehow managed to hold on.
Outtackled the opposition.
Pittonet, McGovern, Cripps, Jagga, Florent, Lord, Carroll, Elijah.
O'Keeffe, Dear and Chessar encouraging.
Williams having the poise to finish.

Cons:

What is it with our 2nd halves?
Set shot goalkicking.
Most of our goals seem to come from chaos ball at the moment. Need more ball movement finish with a mark and set shot in forward 50 goals.
Nowhere near enough from Fogarty, Oli, Williams, Hewett, Ainsworth.

This was exactly the play I was decribing

Game style changed completely after half time ... just bombing the ball forward. Very strange.

I had to laugh when I heard Cornes raving about Laylor being better than Smith and how Richmond selected the right player. I mean Smith has just come off an ACL and gets 32 impactful possessions. Laylor has played 12 games.

Things we learned

1- Matthew Carroll is a far better winger than Ollie Hollands.... Carroll's kicking is just so precise. Hollands' kicks lack zip and precision.

2- Will Hayward is going to bring a bit of guts and willpower to the team.

3- Fogarty is going to have to be more than an effective tackler if he wants to remain in the team. He is selfless..and that's a good team quality, but I would prefer to see what a Talor Byrne or someone else brings in terms of zip around the packs & scoring goals.

4- Jagga Smith is a superior midfielder (on two games experience you can already see the capabilities) than Adam Cerra.

So there are some things to work with here that make the team better 5-10 weeks further into the season.

Lalor will be good and so will Smith - and Cornes knows how to get mass debate clicks

The Smith/Lalor debate is already so boring.

They are completely different players and both are going to be absolute stars. End of story.

Would be happy with either of them.

Maybe it didn't happen and I dreamt it but I remember in a recent game Sam Walsh took possession in the centre had a couple of bounces and I think a handball and handball receive and the kicked a long goal while running at speed. But if he can't kick a ball to save himself, I must have been dreaming.
