I would probably rather be complete shit like Essendon** than this weird state we're in.

I think Essendon* get pick #1 and we get pick #2.
We tell the Bombers not to bid on Cody or else we do the same to Bewick next year.
Death ride the Swans and hopefully we get another top 10 pick.

I would suggest we bunker down as a club.

Do every presser were obliged to do.

And only say this...

'nothing changes until we play 4 quarters'

Another question comes in...

'nothing changes until we play 4 quarters'

It needs to become a mantra publicly. No reasons, no excuses, no 'we're hurting'. Just a rock solid steely ambition to not say anything until we play 4 quarters.

Like kids, one simple instruction is better than a list. Write it everywhere. 4 quarters. 4 quarters. 4 fu&#king quarters.

I want it to be all the players think about. Can't change their kicking ability in a week.

Just play 4 quarters.

We should get them to watch the ch7 show Four Quarters from the 90s, until they get it

Especially the episode where Sandy Roberts said 'while we eat our chocolate starfish'

I like this approach.
The power of repetition.

In the words of the late Zig Ziglar.......

Maybe the club needs a weekly rollout of motivational speakers until they can hit 4 quarters, more so to not want to hear them anymore.

Carlton's poor second halves are the talk of the AFL, so what is going wrong for the Blues?

Interesting read, thank you.

I found this part interesting.
Maybe it is just a case of simply waiting for the players to work out their own system and build confidence and connection with each other.
Quote:
Ball movement blues

It's also worth noting Carlton's ball movement changes this year. Lachie Fogarty signalled the change in the preseason towards a system potentially inspired more by one of their arch-rivals.

"We've had Josh Fraser (assistant coach) come in from Collingwood — obviously a successful club there, and he's looking after our ball movement."

Voss has also talked about moving from a more prescriptive system to allowing players to "play what they see" — a freedom about choices relating to ball movement within a broader framework.

Some of the indicators seem to suggest that this shift is real, with the Blues taking longer kicks, handballing it more often and gaining more than twice the number of handball metres than they did last year.

While they aren't moving it by hand at the same rate as the Gold Coast or Collingwood, there is a marked shift in how they move the ball.

Unfortunately, it hasn't translated to how successfully they've moved the ball up the ground.

Carlton sits in the bottom two at moving the ball from the defensive half to inside 50 and bottom four for moving the ball from defensive 50 to attacking 50. Last year the Blues were in the top half of the competition for both measures.

When they do get the ball in their attacking zone they have struggled to find a target, especially as the game progresses.

Why on Earth would Port even vaguely contemplate that?

Cripps to Eagles, couple of high draft picks to Port, Butters to us. Or some variation thereof

Carlton has leaned into the second half fade-outs this week. Lots of work from the sports psychologist, players laying bare what they see are the issues. There are also some structural issues that have hurt the club in second halves but no one is hiding away from the obvious. They have talked it out, trained it, dug into it. Now to execute against North Melbourne @FOXFOOTY

Those couple of practice games seem like they were played 10 years ago.

Last week I didn't read a newspaper, listen to the radio, watch television or go on social media.
Today I watched the footy.
This week I won't read a newspaper, listen to the rado, watch television or go on social media.
Next Thursday I'll watch the footy.

These past 2 years have become demoralising... more so than any previous rebuilding phase.

There have been more embarrassing losses theses past 5 years, without the rationalisation of rebuild excuse... this was supposed to be our time to shine.

We signed the wrong coach and recruited the wrong players to suit an outdated game plan... we've lost senior players.

And now the game has moved on and we're left behind with our pants down.

The good news is we played three decent quarters instead of two just to fill you in on what's happened Vinny .
