He had to go, if only for his own good. A really good coach, but the weekday man management was not a strength.

he needed a better deputy, that could take on the man management side.

the more i think about coaching, the more i think there's not many head coaches out there that can do all the bits required. and the ones that can, are the legends who win flags.

we have leadership groups on the field, i think most clubs should have 2 or 3 head coaches that collaborate as equals. take turns at the pressers etc ... spread the load, spread the knowledge, coach to their strengths etc - ie combining the strengths of 3 really good coaches into 1 uniform voice.

not sure if it'd work. the human ego usually prevents such things huh

Exactly
Ratten needed good player managers around him
But the board used him as a scapegoat

Voss won’t last the season
That’s obvious. It’s a matter of of when
In 2024 we were 60 points to donuts in an Elimination Final with a ruckman as a sub one of our better players at the time who could play multiple roles subbed out in the second quarter
a player coming back from a third ACL in 6 months with not one minute of match practice etc etc

Voss stood there on the boundary line clueless and then hid in the coaching box in the second half

I have never played footy never been involved in an AFL club but it was Captain obvious he needed tactical support in the form of new assistant coaches
As Braithy said you can’t be good at everything
That’s why McCrae has Leppitsch and Skipworth to assist
Who did the board use as another scapegoat for the backend disaster of season 2024
The head of fitness Andrew Russell

Fast forward to round one 1 2025
We lose to a bunch of kids after being 7 goals up
No change to coaching staff
No change in game plan
As we lie down the bottom of the ladder half way through 2025 they the replace 3 assistant coaches

Then in the draft we recruit 3 list cloggers in Florent Ainsworth and Haywood
On 5 and 4 year deals on over average salaries at the end of 2025
Whether the football departments become dumb or are dumb in the first place the board is ultimately the group of people that are responsible for the mess we are in
They escape scrutiny and when their time is up they are replaced by another person cut from the same cloth
Nothing against lawyers marketing or finance people
And it doesn’t help that Greg Williams the person in a paid position whose responsibilities is to convey info from the football departments to the board can’t string two words together
But if they don’t know collectively how to run a football club onfield successfully you are [REDACTED]
It doesn’t matter who replaces Voss
It will be the same shit again
Rinse and repeat
I’ll tape the game tomorrow
Going bushwalking rather than watch it live
At least I can fast forward the ugly parts
Very little care factor left until the board goes which is unlikely

I didn't like the sacking of Ratten either.

I’ve just had a second person tell me that Shaun Grigg will be coaching in 2027.

I had two Collingwood mates tell me at the time that we were the best team to watch on TV.

The players clearly don't want him.

The players are either on strike, or are simply completely uncoachable.

The list is garbage, but it's just a matter of when now.

This week?

What’s the point of keeping him on?

GW’s first call was the wrong one.

Cut the @#$%&! cord. Tonight.

Untenable. Been that way for long enough.

There is no goodwill left to play with.

Once again a laughing stock.

This is my concern. Yet again the players get off the hook. Dock then half post ffs!

Should have been gone last year. No point sacking him now. We've made our bed so now we play it out and waste another year. @#$%&! this whole club from the top to the bottom

looking thru the annals .... there's been some success stories of interims going on a run. plus we can blood kids, throw the season in the bin etc

the damage of keeping voss here is maybe too much to ignore?

Writing was on the wall when his game plan left for the Swans...

Now it's up for debate if the players have given up, or trying to transition away from the bomb, bomb, bomb game plan of the Voss era is unachievable with this group.

It's just a matter of time now...

I get the argument for a coach change, but it's still Round 4. What changes can a coach make to a list whereby - let's face it - at least two-thirds of the list really isn't good enough at AFL level and/or they are well past their prime and/or talented, but soft as butter.

Wait out the year, as painful as that might be.

Don't provide an option.

Repeat of the last qtr against Melbourne where players are statues when a Carlton player has the ball at half back.

If they do lead there are too many butchers in the team to ensure possession is retained on a consistent basis.

Unforced errors like kicking into the man on the mark.
