Come fly away to that little place called Telstra Dome.

ahhh it was nice to be yelling at the umps again. If there is one unchanging fact its that umps are shithouse! And we seem determined to give them ads many chances to stuff up as possible.
arhhhhhhh

But enough, I want to fly. travel by the blue winds down to Accapoulco Bay. :Let the sharks have their fun with the this's and that's that went astray. I was rather happy except for a twenty minutes of KK crucfying us we did okay.

Thought Hartlett off injured in the last buggered a defense that after that last fifteen minutes of the first fought back and held the upper hand. waite to the backline showed me was he does not play there. Not yet anyway (though i will always wonder) overcommits at times uyoung Waite but he'll learn.

Murphy is a lovely bloke, glad he is in our jumper. gets the ball, isat the fall oh he got me flapping my wings a few times, as did young blackers, gees at times he was like his old man out there. get that muscle on boys we have a long journey ahead and i reckon you two are part of the engine.

Pleased with the Irishman. Presented, presented and presented. Took afew grabs, brought the ball to ground, gave us a lot. Made me smile a few times did Santy.

Thoiught we shoulkd have been infront by more when the KK show hit town again but in the end they have Scarlet,oh to have him. SOS was a great plkayer and since he's left that backline of ours has been grounded in a non take off zone. Fix that position, find the great defender and oh how we'll fly again.

Must repeat was pleased with Hartlett and i'll agree with jar jar, T-Bird is not a square player, the tension eats away at his tank like a gaping hole in a spitfire's fuselage. T-Bird needs that 50 meter arc to settle his nerves. Mind you fullback is not an easy position to play.

Betts had one of those 'missed by that much nights' but he mnust be stuffed with the chasing he did.

Tex did very well on little God, clipped his wings good and proper in the first half. Attacked well and with three pieces of better decison making kicks could have been the wings this plane soared upon. By gum that lad is fast.

Simmo is the bluebird of this outfit running the lines while AB is the at the bottom of the packs.

Look we were in front in that last quarter. I never expected that. I have an inkloing Geelong will go very close this year and we pushed 'em without ever clicking.I was happy. NAB cup, ya win it its just a practise match, ya lose it and the whells fall off before take off. Go figure

and Come, Come fly with me. There are some good kids out there, a few more in th wings and football is back. Its only a game

but what a game!

Go Blues!

Terrific post DB, I echo your thoughts, these kids are going to need time, but I think we have plenty to work with. Will be a bumpy ride but the end result will be worthwhile I reckon...bring on Rd 1!!!!

Yes, was good to be at the football again. My key concern were the rules and the Umps. Some of the free kicks (to both sides) resulting in goals were just - I don't know what to say. The AFL has no idea.

Whilst I was disappointed in some aspects of the game - I think it borders to the hysterical to get the knives out after the first pre-season game.

Oh, and BTW the "sexy squad" is not sexy at all 8) . Who the hell has that Mohawk with red color. And good effort by Phoenix to try to start soccer type chants.

Awww I love it Dannyboy. You just turned my furious looking face into a smile :). I hate the negativity going around after one game and the talk of the finals and the future already, makes me so mad.
So thanks :D

Ditto here. SUre there were some poor elements to the game but we also saw some fantastic signs for the future. After all no-one is under any illusions any more about where we are, but we all want to see the team improve.

I agree with Mikkey too about the umps - they were all over the shop. As Wallsy was saying in the commentary box "Come on! You gotta let them play!"

Our forward line will worry teams without enough tall defenders this year. Once Setanta really finds his confidence and knows which spaces are his he will be a right headache. And if Bryan/Deluca/McLaren/French spell forward there are going to be 2 200-odd cm players to mind, and then Fevola and then Waite and maybe Kouta and then who's going to mind little Bradley Fisher???

We have a full-on rotating midfield now. While they are still inexperienced and now exactly the fastest men in all Mehhhhico they are good instinctive ball users (ie Bentick, Blackwell, Murphy, Carrazzo) and as they play more and more together they will start to read each others games well and the guys like Walker, Stephens and Simpson will provide the afterburner effects.

I agree with the assessment of T-Bird. Full back for the Blues the past few years would be a more morale-destroying job than safety-testing gas masks on the Western Front and the young fella shows strong signs of that confidence drifting away. Let the kid run and carry the ball - he does it so well.

:-D

According to Cammo, I got my mug on TV again after our first goal.
I think they showed me for like 3 seconds.

One of the positives for me was the endeavour shown by the boys - they never gave up, tackling also seemed to have improved.

Also good was the fact our vice-captains were among the best players, not happy with Kouta though.

However, quite a lot of the time they looked lost and disorganised, but hopefully they will combine better before the season gets too far, and how's that game-plan going Denis?

And how about more focus on goal kicking practice - there were at least three shots at goal that should not have been missed.

The signs are there, just need to build confidence.

Was that you guys doing the bowing and "we are not worthy" salute after Murphy kicked his goal in Q1? I've not met you before PJ seen your pic and thought it might have been you.

Saved the day again, DB.

I never made it thru all the match review thread, just way too much negativity.

Reckon we were actually one very bad umpiring decision away from a win on Saturday. After the KK goal in the last our wings got clipped.

Enjoyed Carlos, Simmo, Walker esp his flying (should have got the goal), Murph, Blackers, AB, nice to have Skinny back, Hartlett plus the tackling and the stronger bodies

It will take time but.... Onward and upward

I'm looking forward to the following in the future:

- an engine room of Murphy, Blackers & Bentick
- outside mifielders Stevens, Simpson, Walker & Russell
- Hartlett @ CHB and Kennedy @ CHF
- Fisher & Waite causing trouble on the forward line
- Betts crumbing goals
- Fev kicking bags of goals
- Whitnall, Thornton & Bower as strong defenders.

Next year we will start rising again.
