How do people think our forward line will work?

Fev and Waite were probably underdone last night.

I'd imagine at this stage of his development Setanta may need a specific role that he can learn and become comfortable with.

We all know that when he's on song Fev can do anything at full forward.

And finally Fisher has a great pair of hands (the equal of anyone I would have thought)

Setanta gives us options - his kicking ability suggests hard fast leads straight up the guts are his best option. Does this give Fev the opportunity to lead wide? When his kicking is on he can kick them from anywhere. Can a DeLuca, Bryan or Mclaren loiter around the square for our long bomb game plan?

What roles do we create for Fisher and Waite? Do they kick the ball well enough to be delivering to Fev and Setanta? In the scenario where we rebound from defence, they are the blokes who will need to present around the middle, then look for Setanta and Fev - or the long bomb.

I hope we get it right - we need to give the opposition something to think about.

this is how i think we should do it, have waite and Fev the two main forwards with setanta and fish the other two tall targets, so waite at CHF and Fev at FF and give more room, so he can lead and have one on one contests, which is normally good out and now that he is extremely big and strong he should kill it every time, let waite play the position of CHF where he can lead up to the wings and put on that pressure that he does so well. Then fish and setanta do like they did last night where the provide another good 3rd or 4th option.

But i think the main things for our forward to really work and kill other sides is that the midfield have to improve their kicking (except for Stevo, he just can't do a thing wrong when kicks the ball), because if they can hit a target and kick properly to Fev, Waite, Fish and Setanta then our forwards can dominate and my last point is that we need to free up our forward 50, give our forwards some room, for example leave Fev one out with his opponent because i think then he can be really dangerous because he is a smart footballer and he is absolute gun of a player so let him do what he does well. Because in my opinon Fev is the best full forward in the comp (and im not just saying that because idolise the Fev) and if we kick it to him properly and kick it well to fish, waite and setanta, Carlton will do well.

Does that make sense?

Well thats how i see it

Agreed Forwad options we have many of these and if we get the midfield right we should be able to have a fairly competitive forward line

As shown on stats our attack last seson was good that we where able to score ... didnt help in the fact our defence was by far the worst in the league for 2005

Options
Fev - As said when on song he is handful for any forward line .. Key strength as a leading forward
Fisher - Great mark will be a key target around the forward 50 area where he can gets space rarely drops a mark when kicked to him
Waite - CHF though as many have said could be used in many places but mainly as a Mobile forward who can contest as well.
Sanatanta - Great contesting forward finally someone who will make a real contest in the defence if he dosnt mark it he can bring the ball to ground and we need to captalise on this IE Betts or Davies ect

Other Options include Bryan / Deluca / maclaren / cripes even Houla as not convinced about him in the midfield
So we have a lot of Forward options methinks

Need more consistency from Fev.

Waite needs to get cleaner with the ball.

Fisher is a very good player and has the markings of being a great player.

setanta is on an upward curve but is still a way from cementing his spot.. (I want him to make it but noone wants him to make it more than himself thats why he will make it).

If only Deluca could hold his marks he would be a headache for opposition defences.

Betts is going to be a star.... even last night you can tell he was on the hunt but missed by a bees dick .

Davies running out of chances.

Houlas best spot is not through the midfield.

Waite is no key forward. Played his best footy last year when he was amnned up by the 3rd defender. When Lance went back Waite struggled.
Should play him on a wing/HFF.

The Game.. for once i agree with you.. (except for the bit about Lance not being there he struggled)... ......When Lance was there Lance struggled....

We have to rebuild our forward line so its functioning more efficiently.
Its abit top heavy at the moment...

Houla and Betts should both be up there. Fisher has the best hands at the club, he should be up there.
We have the talent for a good forwardline they just need the right mixture.

You can't play Fev, Deluca, Waite, O'Hailpin up there without any crumbers.

Fisher is up there but he isnt cos were flooding....
Again i agree with you re Houla and Betts.. but Betts can make things happen in the midfield too... and i dont mind him playing minutes through the midfield.... pound for pound he is easily the most skillful player at the club.

Did Eddie actually touch the ball last night?

Eddie was ok last night...he didnt dominate but he chased. tackled.. harassed.. laid some forward line pressure.. and got right in amongst it.

....just as murphy did...

i thought both of them did ok... as well as walker.

Robert Klomp won a telly for not touching the ball once upon a time.

I think our forward line - in fact our whole team - would go a hell of a lot better with DeLuca in the Bullants.

At least last year he was taking two grab marks.

This year he's pulling out four-grabbers!

archie does well, to run a nd provide a big target, he's so mobile forhis size. it just so frustrating watching him double grab everything he goes for.

if he learns how to mark he is going to be an awesome player, that will rip sides apart as they will have no one to put on him.

manning him and santy up in the one forward line would be difficult, but people are right we were just a bit too top heavy at times on saturday night and the delivery was less than average

according to the nab ad all you have to do to become a great mark is hold your hands out with your thumbs just touching. 8)

While we have a shite backline i'd play our wings just ahead of HBF, play waite and fisher as forward flanks who play up the ground so that even when we're flooding the opposition 50 we still have a full midfield. Fev at full forward, setanta CHF with Betts at Fev's feet and Murphy in the other pocket. It'd hinge on Fev being in form and Fish and Waite would need the fitness to be link players to the forwards and also present as a marking option when needed - Fish did this perfectly on Saturday night.

Yeah but you also need to whack on a tutu to become a discus thrower, so I don't know what to believe...

Kennedy is the key...we need a strong bodied CHF and the forward line will work around him. Setanta to me has gone ahead of Deluca and Bryan as he offers a bit at ground level and is equally as good in the air...
Kennedy, Fev, Fisher and Setanta as your marking forwards and Eddie and Houlihan perhaps as your crumber/small forwards...
If Fev doesnt fire I would give Hartlett a go at FF....Kennedy, Hartlett and Setanta gives you some grunt and muscle...like Whitnall Fev has to perform to earn those big dollars..

I would be thinking about Jarrod Waite at CHB...Pavlich started down back early in his career and i reckon Waite has a Pavlich look about him the way he plays and looks...

That ad came on straight after Archie had done his juggling act.

I laughed so loud that my GF came in from another room to see what was so funny.

Fev, Kennedy, Fish & Carlos should be the big forwards (assuming Carlos continues to perform along the lines of the other night). Another tall like Waite would make the forwards too top heavy, so why not experiment a little with Waite at CHB?

I think Fisher will be further up the ground this year than previous seasons......push up to the wing/half back to try and take the kick from our defence. Almost play as a wingman

Is it worth playing Waite back on a wing like he did earlier in his career?

If he can play the goalscoring wingman role like B Burton then maybe we wont be so top heavy in the forward line but still use his height to advantage near goal.

He is great at drifting into marking contests from the side, and being on the wing would remove the tight checking backman from his tail.
