Uncontracted players at the end of this season for Carlton:

Jordan Boyd, Ben Camporeale, Lucas Camporeale, Harry Charleson, Wade Derksen (UFA), Matt Duffy, Francis Evans (UFA), Lachie Fogarty, Nick Haynes, Elijah Hollands (UFA), Ollie Hollands, Mitch McGovern (UFA), Rob Monahan, Nic Newman (UFA), Hudson O’Keeffe, Flynn Riley, Adam Saad, Zac Williams (UFA), Billy Wilson, Flynn Young, Lewis Young.

The important ones for me would be O Hollands, Newman, and Wilson. Also good to consider holding onto for depth are McGovern, Williams, L Young, Evans, Derksen, and Haynes.

The others either still need to prove themselves or are past it, or both.

No room for development players? What do you want shown from them?

True. Doesn’t have to be in the AFL.
What about those who have shown some good signs, ie potential?

Yeah, for the most part, we would want to hang on to them. But, even some of those will have to go.

If we can trade him, then Riley on a six month deal might turn out to be shrewd business from FootyGPT. If not, then we’re probably copping the TPP hit to move Reidy on, or saying goodbye to Skull.

As for the Campo twins, I’m having a hard time changing my mind on either of them. Progress would be hitting targets by foot.

My take from what I’ve heard from GW and a couple people is there will be some trading of 2026 and 2027 picks, to get us Walker, and 3 picks within top 30 in this last uncompromised draft, with a view to set us up for Kouta, Thornton and Togala in the 2028 Draft.

Can trade for picks 2 years ahead. Other clubs know we are in the market for 2028 and trading for a higher pick for Walker because Tigers will play hard ball, with view to carry small deficit for 2027. Hence, next years 1st and 2 nd are on the market.

Possible trades…ie anyone out of contract worth high picks.eg Ollie or role players in demand eg rucks

We have 20 players out of contract this year, and another 8 next year. Assume the following:

4 kids from Draft
1 mature
1 FA
3 Trades

Max 9 changes and decision on the 2 International players. Maybe GW and CD saw something of interest in most recent trials in the USA and Ireland.

Can put a line through Fogarty, Boyd, Saad, E.Hollands…and at least 4 more (depending if we can trade out a player or two). We hold the cards.

Can see a few one year contracts. Next 10 weeks will tell us who. I agree with sinbaggers potential retentions.

Have they got there eyes on the George Stevens ? for a bloke playing his fifth AFL game he was pretty good last night Bondi . 62 % TOG for 18 possessions against top quality opposition . And we have a connection with his brother who is with our VFL team .

We’re shopping in the Setterfield/Dow aisle at Vinnies. So, unless they’re happy with a future third & a swap of fourths, I don’t see us getting him out of there.

We can’t go into deficit if we don’t have a first round pick. Sydney’s pick will suffice, but so will the picks we get for McKay (Tas) & Cripps (UFA) at the end of next year.

Whatever we get for Weitering will spare us the deficit after getting [REDACTED] for Cody this year.

Weiters Harry Crippa...maybe Crippa could get us a late 2nd or early 3rd round pick. Weiters and Harry have 4-5 years in them. Serviceable. Anyway, that's next year. No prospective coach would want them traded.

If we end up higher than 14th we lose the 10% discount. Seems to me we are playing to win as many as we can. Players meeting got their eyes fixed on Wildcard. Not only do we lose the 10% discount our picks are pushed back and worth less points. I doubt Walker will go pick 1 or 2. I reckon 3 or 4. Without looking at the points I would guess pick 5-6 would be handy for pick 2 or 3.

Assume Walker is pick 3. ie 1.Cochrane, 2. HVD, 3. Walker, 4. Pickett, 5.Williams.....

from the top of my head..... I'm guessing....

Options 1: Trade the 2 firsts to get us a top 5 pick and we end up with a deficit up to the allowable 450 ish off our first pick next year. Guessing 100 point deficit. That may push out our 2027 2nd rounder. We don't have to go to the draft next year to make 3 compulsory changes to our list. A Rookie promotion, a FA, or DFA and a mature player would suffice. We might Trade our 2027 1st and 2nd

Option 2: Maybe Trade our 2 x 2026 firsts plus our 2027 first for a 2026 pick 5 ish and an early 2026 2nd, and we still have our 2 x 2nd round picks from NM and GCS. 4 good young players.

Option 3. A combo of the above, or do this as stand alones ....Trade Ollie for a late first, and/or Kemp for a 2nd, and/or Reidy for a late 2nd or 3rd for clubs desperate for rucks...if Riley stands up......more picks.

I'm not good at this, but I'm sure Effendopes will have high picks to trade for 2 late picks to improve their squad. They will have Pick 1, plus a compo Pick 20, plus Merrett 1st,pick 10ish plus a 2nd or two...

There's so many scenarios, but the whole idea is to have a high first for Walker and go from there.

There’s ZERO chance we’re going to nickel & dime our way to a top ten pick.

For what it’s worth, I think we get to 9-9 after the Filth game, then shut it down.

10-13 for the season with the St Kilda game being the 10th win.
