Josephine Calvi's funeral was held today in Mildura. Hers was the last of the funerals for the 6 teenagers who died in that awful incident last week.

Mrs K pointed out her coffin had a Carlton guernsey draped on it as it left the funeral.

Was the club involved in any way?

There was picture of her in the Herald Sun last week with one of her friends who was a Richmond supporter (one of the other girls who died) at the MCG. They both had their footy jumpers on. I hope the club acknowledged this in some way.

It would be nice to think that the club perhaps sent a letter of condolence. But I would also like to think this would be done in private. Making public comments, or sending up a player uninvited, would be tacky. Those who organised Graeme Kennedy's funeral invited such involvement. But the attendance of a few AFL footballers was never going to overshadow the man being honoured. But others might not want to let the funeral of a loved one be hijacked in this way by celebrities. So we will never know, and we should never know.

And it is also possible that the relevant people didn't know of the connection anyway. I for one didn't see the photos and wouldn't have known unless I saw this thread. With a membership of 35000 and a support base which is much larger, it would be impossible to keep track of all supporters. And individual recognition to all those who suffer tragedy would be difficult to manage.

Totally agree SOS. Not something that we need to do in public. I was thinking more along the lines of a bunch of flowers or a letter of condolence. I think this would mean more to the family than sending a player to the funeral.

The jumper did look like it had writing over it, not sure if it was signed by the players or msgs from friends.

I think from the picture in the Hun, that the guernsey is in fact signed by Carlton players. I can make out Andrew Walker and even Paul Bower. Obviously the club has played some part in this small gesture. The paper writes that she was a devoted Carlton fan. Overall, just a shocking waste of young lives. My condolences go out to all the families affected.

I was sort of thinking of it in comparison to the funeral where St Kilda players were there.

I agree, uninvited involvement would be tacky and intrusive.

I was sort of hoping the Club could have paid their respects, and if they did, then that's great.

The club arranged the jumper and sent it up. Nice work team.

Yet the Bomber and Tigers are putting on an exhibition game for the community. Yet we wouldn't want to promote our club in this fashion.

This might sound extreme in the context of alleged sexual assault, drunken violence and a drug trafficking charge...

Two of the families directly affected by this horrible tragedy contacted the scum to host a practice game in Mildura to lift the spirits of the town. it wasn't an approach made by the scum or ferals themselves, which I think would've been a bit crass
