From the available players not injured/sick etc. I would make 4 changes and make a number of positional changes as well.
Firstly Chris Bryan has got to be better than De Luca irrespective of where they are played. He can ruck, kick, play back/forward and most importantly he holds his marks.
Secondly we need some bulk in the backline and whilst Prenda didn’t play there, Livo is a backman and he is better skilled than Prenda, so off to the Ants Ian.
Thirdly Scotland is about as accountable for his man as Stevens and Kouta and had a shocker IMO, so make way for a lad who has skill, speed and above all will do as he is told. Welcome to the big boys JR. Now this will get some of you kiddies going.
Fourthly we are still missing grunt and run in the back half, so let’s create a special possie for Houla Skirt…Left Right Out…David Teague has more commitment in his little finger than Ryan the Rabbit.
So that’s the 4 changes I’d make, now to the positional changes:
Flash Eddie is a crumber, not a mid. Get him back at the fall of the pill at the feet of Fev and Carlos. We saw what he can do in the pocket last year. He also exerts forward pressure on indecisive defenders similar to how Hickey used to.
Red is not a friggin Centre Half Back, but then again who is? I reckon Whittas would be better off in the Forward Goal Square.
1AW should be let loose on the wing rather than defence. Enough of the tagging roles. Remember Kouta in 94-95? Would be a difficult matchup with his flair and speed.
If Livo could contain Neitz he could have done a fair job on Kingsley IMO. But then again when 3 senior players are not accountable for their men, the pill will keep coming in like rain.
Waiteys not a backman at his current body shape and is better as a third or fourth tall in attack, whether that means wing or flank, I’m not sure but if he was in the forward line that I have worked out, he would gets heaps of the red thing.
I have long been an advocate for Fev playing at CHF cause he can lead from a way back and kicks it a mile. Needs room and to be on a different line to Carlos.
With Carlos down next to Red, at least he will learn when to go and when to stay. Very pleased with his performance on Saturday night.
As for the midfield, we now have a number of rotational options with Smurf and Blackers likely to be 200 gamers. They both need a body before they will have a major impact, but they are both class players with very good in close skills. You can’t teach awareness, but you can put muscle on bone.

Hopefully Saddo gets right soon and adds some experience to the back six. Walk up start when fit. After Clarks debut for the Yogi Bears, can’t wait to see young JFK in action. His work ethic and all round skills should mean an early entry to the big time. The future is a bit brighter than some make out. What say you?
