Probably about this.....

As a beanie I must admit it is hard to work out whether the apparent improvement in the numbers has come about from payments related to moving from OO, or any of these other 1 off cash amounts. Regardless, TV numbers, sponsorship etc. all follow the right pattern.

The other good news is that NAB can't really close us down from our technically insolvent position, as there is no way they could reclaim the cash - this is dead money until the Club pays it back. Even better is that I don't work at NAB!

Ian Collins has announced to a room full of melbournes media that the club has a 7 million dollar debt but will not go to the AFL for assistance. Ian Collins also said he believes that Princess Park still has a place to place within the AFL and that redevelopment into an elite facility will help wip out debt.

He also said that bad onfield performances are not helping the situation regarding sponsorship and the turn around of finances

That's not a bad Annual report at all.....
OK - some of the figures aren't good - but realistically, how could they be?

I'm a tad worried about the makeup of the profit, as per Molsey's comments -but without one-offs, we reduced the loss quite markedly....

Per other sentiments here recently, I'm a bit worried that Collo's report suggests we're going to rein in costs, and specifically the marketing costs.....

Obviously Fevola's 100 Game wasn't considered a milestone..

I'll bet he is happy.

Also player contracts have gone up from 8 mill to 10 mill

Is this just a cross over with contracts

Isnt going to the AFL for money so how are we financing the elite training facility concept which is in turn paying of our debts?....I think thats financial dreaming and I want something more concrete....get an expert in with a real plan before its too late...

With the cash flow problems, has there been any delays in paying players?
Would possibly explain the "on-field performance"....

I know Collo is stating the obvious.....BUT with record membership and reasonable good crowds IT's JUST NOT AN ISSUE in the scheme of things and the players don't need the president to be publically saying they are crap.

You berrate someone (pubilcally) who isn't trying ( a la Cupido) but you really have to watch what you say about people who are trying their best or just not up to speed as yet.
I notice Pagan never publically cans anyone whereas Collo has done it a few times....I just don't think it serves any purpose

The room full of media included our friends like Caro and Phatrick Smith.
Stay tuned for some helpful news reporting.

$1,000,000 from the AFL Competitive Balance Fund is only a short term fix paying a debt of $7,000,000, it would probably only save us around $60,000pa in interest payments, so really does not have that much positive impact on our cash flow.

We would be better seeking even more assistance from the AFL (and the thought does shit me, believe me) in redeveloping Princes Park as an alternative training venue - exactly what the board and Collo are trying to achieve.

Applying to the AFL and the State Government under the terms of their policies for upgrading club facilities - just as the Bulldogs & Kangaroos have successfully done. Plus don't forget how Geelong's stand got built.

Well - times have changed...if you didn't think footy was a business - you do now. So have we explored all the avenues to turn around our misery?...that's really the question I'd like to know.

Our 'co-tenants' at Princes Park today announced 2 new sponsors. I dare say 10 years ago we would have been knocking them back. It's dishearteneing to see sponsorship we so desperately need going to another football code in this city ...disheartening more so to see our greatest rival win one more game than us last year - but still having the business nous to garner major deals with some of the worlds biggest companies (read McDonalds/Lexus/Emirates etc)...

I dare say we have some of the wealthiest - high profile supporters in the land...needless to say - unless they are feeling extremely generous - they aren't going to put their hands in their pockets - after all - this is not the 80's and money doesn't grow on trees.

As Carlton supporters all we can do is hope that we start turning this ship around and start heading north...let's just hope that the powers that be go too far north and before we know it the only means of survival means moving this once great club to Southport!

n.b - Powerball is $22 million this week. I urge supporters who haven't bought a membership to at least buy a ticket and send it to Michael Malouf before Thursday. You just never know!

Also - Geelong's stand was State Gov't money...Bulldogs Federal...North?

Nope Denis Pagan's back payment from when he played under 19 football at the Blues in 1970.
That's what you would like to hear anyway!

Stalking me again hey jbee . It was a simple question no doubt that simple that you read something else into it.

Collins and Malouf have come out and said that they are cutting back on player payments and gone are the big contracts..

Why has it gone up then

Come on smart arse answer it .

And by the way you better get used to people bagging Pagan

??? The Club has not "suddenly" increased its debts from 1.5 to 7 mill. Most of the increase happened in 2004 when the Legends Stand was written down and the finances re-structred. I thought your were familiar with what goes on inside the Club. If you had read the publicly available reports for the SC and the Football Club last year, the number should be no surprise.
