What do people think about Angus Morgan's opinion of our best 22?

B: Cory McGrath, Bret Thornton, Jason Saddington
HB: Matthew Lappin, Lance Whitnall, Andrew Walker
C: Heath Scotland, Nick Stevens, Ryan Houlihan
HF: Jarrad Waite, Adrian Deluca, Brad Fisher
F: Eddie Betts, Brendan Fevola, Setanta O'hAilpin
R: Barnaby French, Anthony Koutoufides, Adam Bentick
Int: Dylan McLaren, Andrew Carrazzo, Kade Simpson, Marc Murphy

I think he's got it pretty spot on.

Heres the version without the spin...5 wins and looking for the priority..if we had a strong Carlton lineup then Lance probably would be looking for another club as he wouldnt have got the $400K and the best team 22 is fair enough..

Where we finish?...judging by last season if things dont go right for a few clubs like Collingwood, Hawthorn , Essendon* you can expect a traffic jam at the bottom of the ladder as the other clubs start wheeling out the youth and dropping games to manufacture a decent spot for the super draft....

Looking at the lineup, there's a lot more promise than proven ability there.

Having said that, if we peform as expected, could be an ok year.

Nice to see a real bit of depth building in the list.

I like this a lot better. Not as top heavy up forward. Would like to see Teague and Livo, but Hartlett needs to be given an opportunity also.

yep, think that is pretty much spot on, Brad. Re the original team listed, I would worry about De Luca's ability to hold down CHF and if we can play T-Bird at CHB instead of FB, I think that's a better outcome. mjonc's team addressed both of those concerns

How bad are we going were we have a guy nominated at CHF who can't take a one grab mark - and to think that we signed him and Scotland for 2 years really defies belief.

- Lance is not a backman!
- Scotland is lucky to be selected in any 22 given his performance last saturday

We could pick a couple of differences in the team. But Angus seems to have summed up our situation quite well.

Good news is that he is a pretty level headed guy, good journo who loves the blues.

Thanks Angus - great balance

B Harmes Southby Mcgregor
HB Mckay Doull McConville
C Crane Buckley Quirk
HF Jeasulenko Kernahan Keogh
F Johnson Vallence
Naley
RF Nicholls,Bradley Ashman
I Croswell,Walls,Jones,Sheldon

I reckon this 22 could give the current 22 a run for its money.

I reckon this 22 could give the current 22 a run for its money.

These guys with no ability to run would without doubt beat the current crop.

Only chance of the current crop is that the oldies kick a point and the newies rush the ball down without waiting for the flags to be waved... New rules vs old.

I agree about the concerns re DeLuca as a CHF. I think certain people in the media tend to overrate him somewhat. He drops marks and shanks kicks for goal. If he could improve on those areas significantly he would be a 40+ goal a year CHF, but alas.

I like Setanta in the FP and staying around the goals square, so CHF is a really open position for mine. I would like to think that perhaps Kennedy might be given a chance to make that position his later on in the year. I think Bryan and maybe Predergast should be given a chance to play that role too, and maybe even Livo if they won't give him a game in the backline.

In my opinion one of the big problems we have is that we don't have a marking option in that 30-50 metre out range if Fev is getting double teamed, and that always seems to be the spot our midfielders bomb it to, and the opp clears it uncontested. We need someone to contest that ball fiercely in that zone and at the very least get it to ground and a ball up situation. I think Bryan, who is pretty good around the packs might be the best option.

Good one Ponkster.

CHF options you mention, Prenders and Bryan are definetely worth a shot. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

I'd rather have Bryan shooting for goal from 50-60 out than and making the distance, rather than kicking to Fevola in a 2 on 1 situation if that's the only option for the CHF. Bryan also holds his mark. If DeLuca held on to them consistently, then he is the guy to hold the posi down....but at the moment he's not. Prenders is an athletic type, and can mark the ball when he's leading, and could possibly tire a chasing CHB...he also has the ability these days to slot them through from all angles including outside 50.

Hey and if Prenders or Bryan can't after giving it a shot, then bring DeLuca back in, and let those 3 fight for that position till Kennedy proves himself (or any other up and comer wanting to call that posi his own.

I have always liked the idea of Prenders as a possible CHB, but he was needed in the ruck, but these days Bryan may have the goods for that position (but I have no idea of how good his pace is to stay close to a leading CHF).

I am not saying build a team around these guys as the foundation for the next 5 years, I am just a curious onlooker, and would like to see some KP's pay off, so that the young guys have some pressure taken off them whilst they develop.

THE EMPIRE WILL STRIKE BACK!!
