Sounds like a breach of trust by Graham Blundell however Pagan should know better and be careful about what he says in front of Journo's.

Besides, how silly does it make the club look when the coach points the finger at other clubs when we're the one who got caught

Unless of course he wants to express his justified gripe, without actually having to accept responsibility for doing so.

It's the classic 'off the record' leak that clubs are always feeding to the media, in order to get their opinion across. It's like 'Many at Essendon* believe it was no more than a 'love tap' ...' Club gets to say what it wants, but can't get pinged for doing so!

Just bought the magazine a bit let down no titty girls at all only some sheila who rides mountain bikes splashing herself with water

As for the article - What was his point - rehashed old shit that everyone knows- Bucketed on Elliott - who doesnt' and as for the Pagan statement if he said it and meant it good on him for speaking the truth . But if he said it in a way where he wanted people to feel sorry for him because our club was picked on well then that just typical Pagan.

good aticle on Nathan Brown- the Danny Green stuff was interesting as well

Wasn't Nathan Brown given a tour of properties when signing for Richmond?

Nah he was given a tour of Terry Wallace's bedroom. He said 'well, I'm sold'.

Didn't Peter Bell get a McDonalds franchise as part of his move to Fremantle.

I hope Pagan gets whoever did this. All of them. I hope he really sticks it up them.

Fevolaaa, we did lose both our 1st and 2nd round picks in 2003 as well. The picks would have been no.4 and no.20 overall. We traded our 3rd round pick (no.35 overall) for Heath Scotland and traded our 4th round pick (no.51 overall) for Brett Johnson and Daniel Harford.

True Marci, I just compiled this little list for my own purposes - someone tell me if I'm wrong :?

2002 missed out on;
Goddard (1)
Wells (2)
Joel Perry (31)
Steven Powell (pick 1 psd)
Traded 2nd round pick (16) for Barny

2003 missed out on;
Brock McLean (5)
Sam Butler? (Second pick in round 2)

Gavin Wanaganeen did when he moved from Essendon* to port......

The tigers poach players to there club through Clinton Casey. He is a major property developer and promises players property port folios if they come across. Nathan Brown has a development in Richmond with Kane Johnson i think there are a few that are involved in property development

It was reported in the media at the time that in the lead up to his signing with Richmond, Nathan Brown was flown around peninsula properties in a helicopter, courtesy of RFC or RFC people.

And agree we were penalised our first 2 picks in the 2003 ND, the priority pick was a bonus due to finishing with less than 22 points, and therefore could not rationally enter into any penalty handed out in 2002.

So these clubs are more intricate about their rorting and after what happened to us you'd be surprised if they weren't. That's what we need a big time property developer ..... come on down Daniel Grollo!!! Maybe he can make some of our boys crane operators and supplement their footy wages with $100K plus a year set-ups however using the James Hird roster - 1 hour a month. Oh yeah, Hirdy, there's another scam. Then again you probably can provide brokerage services over a mobile phone, perhaps while you're even running around an oval...

A property developer can do wonders for wooing and retention of players! That's right we had our own version going for a while ..... printing jobs!

I try to move on from the penalties but the scar and pain is simply too deep. Thanks for that list Duke. Using those actual selections is bad enough, but if you open that up to perhaps factor in players that we might've chosen then it might look as follows:

2002 ND no.1 - Brendon Goddard
2002 ND no.2 - Daniel Wells
2002 ND no.31 - Joel Perry (or perhaps the subsequent pick might've been used, Luke Jericho)
2002 PSD no.1 - Stephen Powell (or perhaps Craig Bolton or Brent Moloney)
2003 ND no.5 - Brock Mclean (or Kepler Bradley)
2003 ND no.20 - Sam Butler

Some very handy additions there

...and MarciBlue, if you remove our worst 6 players from the senior list
Prenda
Bannister
Sporn
Wiggins
Davies
Longmuire

.......for example.......and you can see how the list improves. It's not just who you ad, but also who you remove.

But, we were stupid enough to stick it out there for all to see, pretty @#$%&! dumb really!!

So is that Denis's subtle way of saying North were cheating the cap when he left there to come to the Blues, so he assumes they and others still are

When journalists start quoting journalists you know that there is no story.

I like Pagan saying that if he did say it, it definitely would not have been on the record... What a classic. You would expect these guys to be much wiser than that - a rookie mistake from an old master.

Still got Simmo, Fisher (would we have picked them under a normal draft, may have even passed on Fisher's pick at 72) and Walker as well as Stevens pre-season. Of that group above, Wells and Bradley and Bradley would have filled some holes, especially Bradley. More than happy to have Fisher and simmo ahead of Goddard. All in all we got out of it ok with out losing as much as you think compared to clubs with normal 1-2 selections.

Simmo > Goddard

In the Walker draft I remember Synbad saying a while back we would have taken Bradley with Pick 5. I hate the guy, but man he can play and would slot in nicely at CHB for us.

I do agree that perhaps not losing those picks might've resulted in us not acquiring Simmo and Fish, whom I am rapt to have at our club. So that does balance things out.

Whilst I still retain a lot of anger and disgust at the draft penalties and subsequent lost picks, it doesn't alter my satisfaction at having Simpson and Fisher. Its inevitable that an argument for the lost picks is rebutted by the bargains we gained, especially late in the 2002 ND, but I am not trying to undervalue this draft success.

It is more trying to highlight the sheer severity of those penalties by compiling a list of players lost. But after all is said and done, we can't change a thing about it. And I really am trying to move on....

What I am also realising is that we will probably never see another club busted for salary cap rorting because the AFL either wont care or will try to avoid the bad publicity. They don't have nowhere near the same desire to catch someone out like they did with us. Whether Denis said these remarks or not, is irrelevant because it probably is happening anyway and no-one will ever know anything about it. Publicly anyway!

Unlike Carlton, other clubs have come up with trickier, less obvious or harder to prosecute methods of cheating the cap. .

Or unless there are people inside of the club who are prepared to leak the info. Don’t have to be rocket scientist to realise that happened at CFC

You've come around. You were on the Goddard bandwagon for quite a while.
