Lets hope given no -one but the die-hards think we can win on sunday that we play carefree positive and uninhibited football on Sunday night - we really have nothing to lose and shouldnt go back in our shell and play reactive and negative football- We dont need to fear failure as we have in the recent past because apart from our supporters no one gives us a chance - not suggesting in the first round that Melbourne will underestimate us but all the expectation is on them to win and win well and it would not be the first time that the DEES when being red hot favourites havent got across the line
We need to get a good start and exert scoreboard pressure on them so the fear of failure hits early and hard

FD, I like your subject and comments. Notwithstanding that I reckon Melb prob deserve to win on paper, your attitude is the right one. hopefully the blue boys carry it onto the field, and the coaching staff doesn't get too defensive to try and limit the possible damage (ie controlled by -ve thoughts)

I can see it being close for about 3 quarters and them breaking away a bit towards the end in a game in which both sides will still understandably be a little rusty. I think that they just have too many dangerous players for us to contain even though some of their important players are underdone (Bruce, McLean, Moloney, even Neitz etc can't possibly be at 100% ready).

I think though the we have reason to be quitely confident. Our pre-season, despite the deplorable 99 point loss to Port Adelaide actually wasn't too bad, we were decent against Geelong and we got up against a virtually full-strength Bulldogs side in the final practice match so even though it was only a practice match it should give the boys some confidence even though everyone knows the season is a different thing altogether.

But I'm fully expecting a very competitive performance and if Fev fires we are a chance.

I reckon we are a big chance, Kouta's 250th, 2 tight games that we won, Lance, Kouta are fresh as, so's Fev.... Melbourne are already in the finals , at least thats what they think and everyone thinks we own the spoon, talk about catching a side off guard!

Blues by 15 points.

I'm excited!!!

Could smell the Melbourne fear just before three quarter time after we kicked back after being only 5 points in front - they were choking noticeably being beaten by the woodspooner and not being able to do a damn thing about it.
Boys played good positive football where only failure would not be to back themselves and play instinctive footy - beautiful start to the season - be bold be decisive and be brave
GO blues

That's what I thought was so pleasing about tonight. 12 months ago we would have got over run, they had had the run of play for about two quarters at that stage (granted, mostly cause Waitey couldn't kick straight). But we sucked it up and pressed on with it. Very impressed with how we handled Melbourne's pressure tonight.
