An idea I pinched from another site...but how about a thread recognising milestone games for our players this season.

Fitting that we start the season paying tribute to our captain. Adored by the majority of our supporters, much has alredy been said about Kouta over the off-season. We've had many threads calling for his greatest moments, his greatest games. We've had an article from FootyGeek comparing him to other great players over the past 10 years.

1996 vs West Coast, the 99 Prelim final, his amazing stretch of dominant performances in 2000. They've all overshadowed what has been a great, and largely consistent career. I think we sometimes forget that because the rest of his career hasn't reached those great heights he has still been a magnificent player.

We bemoan his knee injury in 2000, but his two Best & Fairest wins came after this time, paying tribute to his consistent form in 2001 and a standout performance in a poor team last season.

Hopefully Sunday evening we're able to start the season off with a victory and make a fitting celebration for out future Hall of Famer.

Good luck Kouta

GO BLUES!!!!

2000 vs West Coast @ Subi - that mark he almost pulled in. God.

Go Kouta, im sure he will have a good game, we all need to get down to the game and support the boys and the Kouta man. Great 250 games, true champ, show em how its done.

My fav Kouta game, 99 prelim, i know its a obvious choice, but when u watch that game, we really shouldn't have been close, he won the game, he controlled the defence and kicked goals, awesome.

Well done Kouta!

Favourite game was in 2000 vs North
39 disposals
12 marks?
5 goals

and that was with half the game matched up on Carey.

One of the best individual games I have seen by anyone.

In the top 3 players I've ever seen play the game. He was literally unstoppable on his day.

I liked when he thrashed Michael Voss at Princes Park in 2001 with 36 disposals, 11 marks and 3 goals.

Pretty sure he took 8 or 9 marks in a quarter against Sydney in 2000. Every time Sydney went long from the kick ins Kouta was all over it.

I don't like singling out individual matches. I just like seeing Kouta play.

Like art in motion.

Nice work BlueWorld. You forgot to mention the deafening KOUTA chant that went around the ground after the game and everytime he went near the ball in the last quarter :-D

One of my favorite memories was against Adelaide in the 2001 qualifying final when the ball was hit down to him from the centre ruck contest which he caught with one hand before breaking a tackle with his free arm and using his pace to burst away before executing a perfect pass to Lappin or someone?.

When I say he caught it with one hand I don't mean arm, he caught it in the grip of his hand.

Second quarter I believe. He singled handedly crushed them. It was over at half time. Best quarter Ive seen anyone play.

These are all brilliant performances and 99PF is probably the most awe inspiring.

But his 95 Grand Final performance - where he completely did as he pleased - crashing through packs and taking marks against John Barnes like he wasn't there, the one hand ball control, the exuberance, the promise of things to come.

Special mention to the QF 95 versus Brisbane - when Brisbane looked like getting close in the last quarter - Kouta to Full Forward and took a couple of very strong marks and kicked the sealer.

Third that. :-D :-D :-D

95 GF and 99 PF are two of the many games that perpetuate the legend. A bloke capable of that deserves to be recognised as a great of the game. He'd have to be a HoF-er very soon after he retires, surely.

Favourite quote about him is unsurprisingly from the 99 PF:

Gerard Healy wrote:
They've got to match up Kouta here. He could rip their heart out.

:-D
