I managed to catch a snippet of some footy related show on local ABC radio last night. I presume it's a feed from 3LO as Gerard Whately was the host. Not sure who his guests were but they were discussing betting and odds on the season ahead.

Gerard mentioned something like, "The Crows were the cash cows last year, who do you reckon it will be this year?"

The reply from whoever it was came, "Get your money on Carlton win the spoon at $2.50, it will be the easiest way to double your money you ever come across. They dead certainties to finish last!"

Forget about the merits of his comments, it just really is shit to hear your club spoken about like that. Even worse, it's actually pretty hard to come up with a solid case that proves this guy wrong. Personally, I don't think we'll finish last, but I can't see us really any higher than 14th, 13th at a pinch. Then I try and find the two or three clubs that will be below us and I start looking around for a few lazy bucks to hand over to this bozo.

:?

That said, with everyone basically giving this week's game to Melbourne, and by a healthy margin, it will be fantastic going into Round 2 starting in the Top 8.

I have said many a time, this year we must:

- continue too develop our young guys
- be ultra competitive
- be able too sell our club too an uncontracted player next season once Kouta's contract is up and we have extra cash etc

hopefully we will be ultra competitive and finish 13 or 14th and not last.

I was thinking of having a flutter on us for the win this week. $3.65 for the win this week at centrebet...

that would be the easiest way to triple your money. $3.65 in a two horse race for the first game of the season is a pretty good bet.

the blues will win this week. it won't be pretty but we'll get up.

My thoughts exactly. It could be scrappy anyway for a first round game, and with no form on the board...

You know, I reckon that's not a bad risk. For a blues win by 25+, TAB will pay over $10 - is this beyond possibility??

If we win the midfield we win the game, if we win the midfield we'll win by as much as we want.

Blues can definitely win and are over the odds at that price - get on I advise.

Also Camel wooden spooners haven't gone back-to-back since the hapless Fitzroy so althou it's hard to say who will finish 16th I think it is likley to not be Carlton. I would not be backing them.

You're welcome here anytime old55 :)

We're paying $14 to win by over 39.5

Thats crazy. With a forward line thats expected to be potent and hold its own we only need a good game from our midfield and that's at least possible, even if unlikely.

I second the words on old55, but not about 39.5 or over... geez.

Ease up ladies and gents, take the under 25 or under 39.5 odds, they're solid and the most likely should we win.

I don't like gambling. :(

I'm gone! But I'm so happy i don't really care. I dropped out of NRL one this week as well when the Knights went weak as piss on me for no reason. Such is life.

I made sure to avoid the Carlton game in my knockout, but the same can't be said for almost everyone else in it. I picked Geelong and I'll be picking the Saints next week.

Oh and in regards to the thread title, the easiest I've ever doubled my money was having a multi on Geelong to win and carlton to come within 40 points of Melbourne, paying $2.16. Never really in doubt was it

Haha ta. I think I got a few more predicitions about the game right. Last couple of year got me stuck into my football knowledge and if I had a taste for gambling maybe I'd go alright.

But I don't so I'll work my cash flow up in more conventional ways. :D

Richmond will drop alot in the odds, they have a hard draw with saints, eagles and brisbane at gabba to follow.

Most people aren't dumb and naive enough to bet with the TAB. Centrebet were offering about $3.70, Betfair up to $4 I believe just before the match etc. TAB offer the worst odds because they know they can and the lemmings that like to hold their money within 5 minutes of the event (even though it'll be far less) will still be naive enough to bet with them
