The crowd was small. Only 30,000! Hopefully more Carlton fans turn up for our home games.

Larger than last year's crowd of 30.052 , which was our farewell PP (OO) game.

Avrage attendance between Carlton Melburne since 1897 is 22,333.

Not sure today's attendance of 31,139 can be considered a negative, specially considereing many people thought it could be a Melbourne walkover.

What do crowds from a hundred years ago have to do with today? 30k at the dome from 2 melbourne based clubs is sh!te by anyones standards.

Perhaps you need to peruse more TD figures for Melbourne.

I have read this thread for 3 pages and not seen any of you say #1 Negative...................... DELUCA...... he is an absoloute liability... he runs to far under the ball so reaches back to mark.. when it is infront of him he either gets bumped off or it hits his chest and bounces away... worst mark for a big man in the comp... shocking shocking shocking.... deserves to be a bullant 4 life... rather play Setanta... he couldnt be any worse and can at least get experience!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

most people are just trying to avoid criticising individual players immediately after a loss - if you have a look back, most negatives that were brought up werent real 'negatives' - something to do with letting others enjoy the win. As for your 'negative' - I dont disagree with you but no doubt someone (or myself) would have brought it up later in the week when the euphoria of tonight has died down a bit - probably over team selections for the freo game or something.

I'm sorry I thought Carlton fans were allowed to go to games against Melbourne. It's a piss poor crowd for the first game of the year.

Actually I'm just bored wth your negativity towrds TD.

But I stand by what I said, it's actually a reasonable crowd given the current scenario and being a Melbourne home game, particularly away from the G.

That would be the Kouta comeback game from memory.

That's right...the cheer he got when he ran on the ground was awesome

Also it was a Sunday evening twilight game, and I believe previous attempts at twilight games have been a bit disappointing.

Two negatives for you...

1. Deluca
2. Sporn

Other than that, a great effort, but let's not get carried away just yet.

What negativity? The dome has been my favorite ground for a year now. I didn't blame the dome for the sh!t crowd.

True but it was a Melb home game so who cares. Of the 30000, over 1/2 were Blues fans. If 25000 Melb fans turned up to their own teams 1st home game, the crowd would have been 40k+.

Dont forget that 100000 sports fans were at Albert Park with many more at home watching the race.

2nd that, but on a positive note they can both be replaced quite easily -
russell and carlos would be equally as effective at least.

Fisher's injury creates a selction prob; it seems like teague is next in line for selection but we really need to bring a forward in as a replacement. I liked having lappin and whitnall as permanent backs, it was the first time in a long time that the back line looked strong and clever, i wouldnt want to push one of those guys forward given the strength of freo's forward line.

Can not understand the negativity about DeLuca, as he was OK last night. All his marks were one-grab, and he used the ball effectively when he had it. On a night like last night, not everyone can star, but DeLuca did his bit.

As for the crowd, the Grand Prix had a lot to do with it. The queues waiting to get tickets even half-way through the foirst quarter showed what an impact the finish of the race had on the attendance at the game.

I thought De Luca had a shocker last night. For a guy whos 6'7 he moves well but doesnt get his hands on anywhere near enough high ball and lacks any sort of physical presence. Sheesh, at 6'7 in a forward pocket he should be terrorising the opposition, not twinkling around like a diva.
Only the presence of Paul Johnson on the field saved ADL from looking any worse.
However with Fishers injury he will stay in the side. However, id prefer to see Saddo used as a utility in a pocket and Kennedy hopefully eventually replaces ADL when hes ready.

What a great investment for our sponsors. Great value. Real good exposure for their company. Pics in the papers, with their logo shows the value of sponsoring a Carlton team.

It's so sad that other sponsors didn't see the light. A real negative for all the non Carlton sponsors.

Keep it going blues, and they will come lining up.

For the fast Subi ground, I'd expect someone who knows the ground well to come in for Fisher- in Chambers, rather than Teague.

DeLuca and Paul Johnson - both similar and not up to AFL standard.
