Those young guys would be the Sexy Squad.

MFC were smashed in the midfield yet again and could not win a clearance. Until this is fixed our suspect backline will be exposed and our forward line will not get enough opportunities to kick a winning score.

Great win by the Blues and a lot to be pleased about - the senior members were very solid - Lappin, Stevens, Lance, Fev. Waite is a very very good player. Scotland was great and even Houlihan made a big impression. Simpson was very good, Carazzo shut out Johnstone and Murphy made a fantastic debut.

Hard to find a Melbourne winner or a Carlton loser in the match including the coaches.

Do you think Pagan can coach? 8)

Oldy,

Where was Nathan Jones? I thought he was picked to play. He will give your onball brigade some grunt.

Batram was okay first up. Like several of our young kids he will have to work long and hard on his kicking. Always a question mark with him but otherwise he ran hard all game.

Regards Cazzesman

Thought Bartram's goal outside 50 was sensational and a great way to kick off his AFL career.

Good stuff! Is The Prez in that squad? He's mentioned he likes a good singalong.

Jarrod Waite was a big positive at CHF...having a mobile CHF who you can play through made life easier for Fev...
Marc Murphy of course...very composed and smart and already looks a leader..his attack on the footy is also great for a player of his size.
Kade Simpson....now has the confidence to match his skills and nothing like a good leftie..like MM also has the footy smarts and his use of the footy was very good.

Heath Scotland...have not been a big fan and have questioned his workrate and desire at times but he proved me wrong with a game that included a great work rate and good attack on the footy..also one of the few players who can use the ball on both sides of his body.

Eddie Betts..best tackler at the club and I was pleased to see him get a chance in the midfield..not as flashy as Davey but just as effective and its good to see him getting the chance to develop rather than being a one trick pony.

Livo....looked a bit more composed and foot skills were better....was helped by Melbournes poor delivery though and the overcrowding of their forward line...Livo also flew the flag for one his teammates at the start of the game and let Pickett know he wasnt going to get away with pushing and shoving our blokes..well done ...

French and Mclaren....didnt dominate but were not taken to the cleaners and I thought Mclaren at least gives us a competitive ruckman when French is resting....Deluca was probably our worst player but I would be persisting with him..

Lappin....class player and consistent...

Nick Stevens ..did the job... but some of his disposal wasnt his usual high standard..

Houlihan...couple of disposal errors but did a very good spoil early in the game whcih resulted in a goal..didnt get the credit for it either...overall though was ok...

Lance....did the job down back..filled the holes...and I actually watched him giving some advice and encouragement to his younger teammates.

Andrew Walker...did ok....learnt a bit more...like you dont let Davey get between you and the goals at ball ups ....stuck to his task well and the quicker game that is footy now suits him...

Corey McGrath.....you have give it to Corey....he has become a regular IMHO and gives us some solidity down back with his tackling and body on body work...bit of a favourite of mine is C.McG and liked his game..

Carrazzo....knows how to get a kick and doesnt stop running..no stylist but I dont think he has played a bad game for the club and I thought he gave us a lift when he came on..

Kouta...didnt too much in his 250th but didnt have to as the other midfielders gave him the night off.

Adam Bentick..not as flashy as Simpson, Scotland, Murphy etc but like the way he goes about his footy, very disciplined and does the job whether it be tagging or getting clearances...was a good blue collar game from AB...

The sexy squad are currently working on chants for other players....
you may have also heard our murph chant, but the chorus of brendan fevola was sung loadly last night, and i have a feeling, from his work rate and his heart last night it wont be the last time. www.thesexysquad.com

I thought Kade Simpsons game was freakin exceptional. And murphy, well i take back everything i said about his disposal after the albury game, and listen up coz i dont say this very often.....I WAS WRONG.

Walker-im very critical of, he did do some good things last night in the second half but i think he still has a long way to go.

McLaren-Good effort first up, not afraid to put his body on the line and will improve with time.

Waite-Needs to kick straight, but great presenting up forward.

player/s of the night were lance, thornton, and livo. First time in a long time that we can say that our defence won us the game. these guys worked brilliantly together and kudos to them all. Livo absolutely towelled up neitz and neitz never looked like getting those easy leading goals that he has become famous for. Livo, i hope you've turned the corner son, and those performances continue because you are now a very much needed starter in the navy blue.

kade simpson-youre my boy.

The Biggest Positive for me was when they came at us . We responded . they came at us hard in the third and in the last and the guys lifted and responded . Last couple of years when we were in this position we folded.

It was good to see the guys get their hands on the ball too.

Full credit to Pagan for having the balls to change his game plan.

and doesnt Livo seem to make a difference to our back line.

Now for Freo - Chris Connolly will be looking throught the job adds next week

Mcgrath - Murphy swap is looking better all the time and whilst we have been pilloried for recycling after 2003 - scotland mcgrath and teague have all given great service since 2004 - none worldbeaters but solid nevertheless and we didnt really give much up to obtain them - most of the recycling was a punt and most have gone but these guys effectively replaced Allan Murphy Beaumont and Hulme all no longer playing
Anybody who has seen Corey running round PP and in the gym during the off season ie before pre-season training starts cant help but be impressed with a guy that gets absolutely everything out of himself - hopefully such dedication rubs off on others

Agreed.
A very dedicated player who is hard at it, is a leader of sorts and is a beautiful kick of the football.

i make no secret of the fact that i am in love with cory mcgrath.

a real general in defenc and never stops running. has beautiful disposal and always hits his targets. never gives up, a very important member of our team.

however, with the addition of saddington and the hopeful rise of hartlett i dont think there is room in the team for david teague. he will be on the list as long as denis is coach but i think the model rick martel is now stuck in the magoos.

scotland, what more needs to be said than 32 disposals?

Agreed.
As I said in the Negatives thread, for the blokes who didn't play last night (Davies, Longmuir, Bannister, Wiggins, Teague, Prendergast etc) they are going to find it very hard to find, and cement, a spot in the team.

Teague is going to be a week to week scenario.

Rather than pick out individual players, I would like to say that the most pleasing part of yesterdays game for me was seeing kicks 30m+ hitting their intended targets, something that was missing in 2003/2004 and in the NAB game against the Cats.

2006 will not be as bad as I thought after the NAB game.
