Call me bias, call me whatever you wish, but for mine, the young guys we have coming through the ranks are all underrated and not really that well know in AFL circles both internal and external.

Ask your common AFL follower who Adam Bentick is or who Andrew Carrazzo is and most of them will be scratching their head to come up with an answer.
These blokes are going to lead us into the next stage of our history.

I'm talking about Waite, Walker, Fisher, Bentick, Simpson, Carrazzo, Murphy, Blackwell, Betts etc

They are all quality players and if they are given ample opportunity they will cut teams to shreds as seen last night through Walker, Waite, Simpson, Murphy, Betts and Carrazzo.

Agreed. Carrazzo is a champion in the making, I'm a big fan.

We're kind of a bit like Geelong of a few years ago I reckon. A bunch of no names slowly developing into something good.

The best part is, that I reckon over the next few years, like the Cats, we'll be given a pretty soft run in the media while our kids are learning the caper.

Hey thats exactly what i was thinking...

Out on the park i think we will be a lot like Geelong of a few years ago.... think 2001.... Lots of potential, dazzling and electrifying at times... but we will be inconsistent and a little frustrating other times....

But boy, things are very positive at the moment.... These kids PJ as you said are definetely underrated...

What has happened is the media was focusing so much on our lack of endeavour on the field and poor results last year... the young talent has slipped under everyones guard...

Apart from the supporters and people involved with carlton... We know there is a lot of talent there and things will only get better from here... :)

I remember Gary Lyon writing on our report card for 2006.

In our delist section he had Karl Norman and a few other blokes. But the ill informed so called journalist had Kade Simpson in there.

I can see it now...

"Hmmm what to do with this Kane fella. Well I've never seen him play and he's never mentioned in the papers so he musn't be all that good. Reckon he'd have to be delisted. Yep, that's where I'll chuck him."

LYON is a flower moron, plain and simple.

but gee, if we are and could be compared to geelong a few years ago, which i dont think is too far from the truth to be honest, thats very very positive, as i really rate geelong.

if anything though - i think we will have more quality talls in our side than geelong will have which will make us an even better side. 08 has the makings of a really good year

but lets not get ahead of ourselves just yet.

all i ask of my team is this one simply thing.

play with the intencity they did on sunday everygame, and win, lose or draw i will be happy with the the club and the players that took the field that day.

mind you, we play like that every week, we will win more than we lose.

David Schwarz is an even bigger fucknuckle whose research and generalisations are pathetic.

Earlier on this year talking about Carlton's recruiting, wrote us off by saying we didn't pick too much up in the draft, so picks 1 and 4 are no good are they Schwarz - yet you talked up Collingwoods signings at picks 2 and 5.

We all know the proof of the pudding is in the eating and that potentially picks 1 and 4 and picks 2 and 5 can all be duds. But for Schwarz to make this sort of call pre-season just beggars belief.

You are plain and simple a dill Schwarz.

Lot of good kids around....agree ours are underated...Bentick reminds me of Sam Mitchell...these kids will be part of our next premeirship team..
Frankie Dardew would be luving Andrew Carazzo's form....Frank wanted us to draft young Carrots when he was a Oakleigh Chargers player and was dissapointed we didnt get him initially..has not played a bad game and repaid Franks faith in him...
Waite could be as good as Pavlich...wasnt that impressive as a U18's player but has he shown that to be of little importance...

I guess the big names like Cooney, Griffen, Hodge,Deledio etc tend to push our blokes names down the list but maybe thats a good thing....

Digressing a bit...A underated no name young player who impresses me is Matthew Egan from Geelong.....plays CHB, is tough, rugged but has good skills, dont know his background but he is a good footballer ..recent games include breaking even with Pavlich and beating Jonothan Brown..could be the difference in Geelong winning the premeirship...he is a ripper player and nearly the best CHB in the comp IMO.
I'm using Geelong as an example as most of their players were underated types for years except the Abletts.....happy to see our young blokes remain underated until they are grand finals contenders as well...

There's a complete lack of professionalism in sports writing in this country. It's a shame really.

Unless you go top 5 in the draft (or are taken by Essendon* between numbers 7-15 after every other club overlooked you as a 'certain number one') then the media just don't care these days. The young players talked up in the press are Riewoldt, Kozi, Cooney, Pavlich, DeLedio, Ball, Hodge, etc. You wouldn't find two more important players at St Kilda than Lenny Hayes and Nick Dal Santo - but even though they were both top ten picks they don't get much press because of the other 'superstars' in the team. Good example is Marc Murphy (what I am about to say is not sacriligie :-D ), but do you reckon the press would have even noticed him if he wasn't number one pick yesterday? Nah, there would have been a footnote in the article somewhere saying that Carlton got a lot of drive out of impressive youngster Marc Murphy. And that would have been the box and dice.
Anyway, doesn't matter. Gives a chance for Betts, Bentcik, Simpson, Russell, Hartlett, Bower, Edwards, etc to develop without any hype. Fingers crossed they all put some pride back into the Navy Blue!

Gotta agree with you guys. I was listening to the so called experts before the game and they were talking about how long Whitnall would last at CHB before he was moved to CHF. The idiots cannot look further than their noses. You felling like yelling at them "We just picked up the best big guy in the draft. He will be at CHF by the second half of the season."

The "experts" just are too lazy to do the hard yards and go to training and go to intraclub games and talk to people. They think they know it all.

May we fly under the relay right up to the premiership!

Seriously, we look at our kids and we see the future, the journos look and they don't see anyone they recognise.

I reckon being a journo is a licence to print money. Not lots of it probably, but it appears you don't have to do too much in the way of factual analysis to earn your dough.

You're not alone Elwood. I wouldn't go as far as 'best CHB in the comp', but he's definitely a big addition for them. Played in the Geelong VFL side before being drafted in 2004 (pick 62).

Agree Egan looks very good. Always does his job. When Harley comes back the Cats defence will be unstoppable.

I think he was a late starter to footy.

Pretty sure Egan was a key defender in Geelongs VFL side for a couple of years and made the VFL team of the year at full back when he was still young (21?)

Good pick-up by the cats and shows you can still get something in the VFL (though not exactly hidden)

Mitchell was taken from the VFL as well... although he did play TAC but was over looked.
