Congratulations to Marc Murphy.

But I take the NRS nominations with a grain of salt - if its a line ball between 2 players they will always pick the higher draft choice.

It makes the National Draft Pathway and Kevin Sheahan look better.

Enough with the conspiracy theories - it's the best system albeit currently diluted with concession picks of various sorts.

He won his own ball and provided good vision. Thomas is a carrier and a finisher.

The Rising Star is little more than a grand self justification exercise for the AFL which they put in place to validate their junior development pathway.

Congratulations to the little fella. May this be the start of a great career with the big one, the 17th flag not too far away.

I love that kid. I had a good chat with him in Sydney recently and found him to be a real down to earth young guy. He was excited to be with hanging out with Kouta and Stevo and the Old Dark Navy Blue supporters.

The good news just continues to come. Keep it coming.

To many AFL games I suspect. I think the cut off is 15 games. Carraz now has 21.

From the AFL site

The AFL Rising Star Award was instituted in 1993 to recognise and encourage talented young players in the AFL. After each round of home and away games, a player is nominated and at the end of the season a panel of experts selects the winner. The winner must be under the age of 21 at January 1 of that year, must not have played more than 10 games to the start of that season and must not have been suspended by the AFL or State League tribunals during the season (as with the Brownlow Medal, players found guilty of certain offences and fined or reprimanded by the Tribunal remain eligible to win the award).

I'm with DOA here, lots of leagues have young player awards, you can take the motives both ways.

How many of Thomas’s possessions were 'clangers'? 8)

Just watched the game again and I reckon if this kid can get his hands on the ball 30 times we will win by 10 goals plus.

His decision making for a 18 year old is incredible

Learning Excellence.

Thank god the Roys didn't merge with the Roos and they didn't get Murphy and Jesse Smith within the space of 12 months. If the Lions had merged with the Roos that would have meant they had Brown, Smith and Murphy playing in the one side.

Ironic they might end up based in Queensland and the scuttling of that merger by the VFL clubs might have cost us another club.
