Gotta love the CFC website...

The #1 story of the day is Denis Pagan's press conference after the match.

Unfortunately, to hear the audio of the press conference you must sign up to Telstra Bigpond etc...

Er, doesn't Optus sponsor our club??

So what's it to be Carlton? Should we encourage the fans to support the biggest financial sponsor the club has had in it's history (and let's join hands and imagine life without THAT money...) - or encourage our fans via our official website to support the opposition...??

Next thing will be our membership page offering bonus memberships for the Scum...

The AFL own the rights to web distribution. They sold this to Telstra.

If we want to opt out of it, it's a more expensive process (I don't have figures but it would be). I'm not sure if Essendon* provide an alternative website to the AFL one, but I would think they are the only club to do so.

If Optus want to throw us a hand with the site that would be fantastic and it's a great idea.

The AFL probably have a deal going with Bigpond.

You do have a very good point though!! There always seems to be a sh1tload of microphones in front of the coaches in the after match interview. Can't all be under AFL control surely!!

I reckon Optus have probably been generous enough to warrant the club looking after their interests a little better. This is important money to our club at the moment.

Websites are not expensive to run...

You might be right with Essendon* - how odd that they should be leading the way once again...

If I remember it right:

The AFL sold the rights to the internet sites for all the clubs.

Any club which wanted to opt out could, and market/sell the rights to the individual club site, but wouldn't het a guaranteed slice of the amount which the AFL ngotiated with Telstra.

The scum went it alone, and their website is leaps and bounds the best footy club website.

The internet rights are up for negotiation again.

IMO, Carlton should go it alone, and make a deal with Optus, which would be part of Optus' ongoing sponsorship. There's always a "in kind" part of every sponsorship contract, I think.

Carlton has no choice, it along with 14 other clubs signed a contract five years ago with Telstra.

The club gets over $300,000 a year from Telstra for the privilege. That is a very good deal for the club.

The next set of rights is to be negotiated soon, will be interesting to see what Telstra offers this time. My guess is it will not be anywhere near that amount.
