Goodes, most overrated brownlow medalist, i don't think so. He is brilliant, he can run like a midfielder, he will probably slam us if we don't make sure we get him in their backline. Goodes is a HUGE factor.

If he's a factor, where's he been the last couple of weeks?

He SHOULD be able to have single-handedly beaten Essendon* in Rd 1. But he didn't. His work ethic is patchy to say the least, and his second efforts make Fev look like Diesel. And his disposal has been shocking lately.
.

Goodes has had 20 + disposals in each of his first 2 games. Just because he didn't break the game against Essendon* doesn't mean his not capable of doing it.

Leaves Whitnall free, maybe even Lappin to either be mobile HB, as he did in the same match last year.

Let the Swans worry about Stevens, Kouta, Smurf, Fev, McLaren, French

I think that's a good start....

KK are you trying to make me laugh mate? I'm asking you that in all seriousness.

T-Bird on Hall.
Livo on the bench until we need him.
Carrots in the midfield.
McGrath on Schneider
Walker on O'Loughlin
Lappin on the other small
Kouta or DMac on Goodes, depending on where he plays.

That still leaves Whitnall free, and Kennedy should come in for Deluca.

I'd drop DeLuca and bring in Prendergast to play on Goodes.
Always seems to do well on him.

I'm just putting some options out there as I see them, especially given that I get to see a lot of Sydney and the way they play.

I don't think T-Bird has the strength to stay on Hall personally, and should be on a lighter 2nd option.

McGrath on Schneider is a good one.
I still think Walker on Bolton would work, or maybe even Walker on Davis, which would leave Walker to get a fair bit of it himself when Davis goes into his lazy spells.

IS, Campo picks up 20+ possies a week. Doesn't make them worth the steam off my piss though. Same goes for a lot of Goodes' possies. Lots of useless possies makes little to no difference.

Forgot all about Davis, but he'll be all over the place, Maybe Walker is a good matchup for him and we'll rotate Livo and T-Bird between O'Loughlin and Hall, I sitll think T-Bird is the better match up for him though.

Keep it up guys, this might actually be a decent thread. ;)

Yeh but we can't compare Goodes and Campo, all I'm saying is maybe your right about Goodes not being in form, but we would be fools to not consider him a factor. Tall running player that can take marks and kick goals. Hall isn't in form but he is absolutely a factor.

Fair call. I just think we can negate him easier than most think.

If we can find away to get him playing on a man rather than us marking him, it would negate him. Maybe getting him in the backline, but i'm sure it's not that easy and their coach would know what were trying to do.

We're underdogs. $2.30 to $1.60.

Brad Fisher (hamstring) 1-2 weeks
Adam Hartlett (hamstring) available
Matthew Lappin (groin) test (thought it was his hamstring)

Also thought French had a back injury but no mention of that- hopefully that means he'll be right.

Both Carlton and Sydney finished their respective games as they would hope to start this Saturday. The Swans were gone mind you but they didn't let themselves get belted by 12+ goals.

Both sides should come out with plenty of intent in the first half. Sydney has experience: their players know pressure and react well. They put their heads down and persist.

Carlton have a younger brigade but more zip and freak: if we can put 4 quarters together we could not only win this match but really smack the 2005 premiers...put'em down the bottom of the ladder where they belong.

KIRK-STOP HIM.
STOP KIRK.
Major danger player.

Too f*cking right!

Let's give them some of what we've owed them since 2001, or however long it's been since we last beat them.

And Kirk could be a real danger.....Maybe Tex might be a good matchup on him?

He was copping it a fair bit on Sunday to the point where he would sometimes ignore the ball and go the man with a hip and shoulder. Got Michael Wilson with a ripper.

Wouldn't mind seeing Hartlett come in this week. But I reckon Prendergast might get the nod and play on Goodes.

Hartlett has just overcome a hamstring and will need to be eased in the Bullants, before taking a permanent position in the firsts' backline.

Bring on Prenders for Goodes. There is no other match up for him other than Kouta. We need Kouta to support the younger midfielders when the heat is on; and it will be 'on' against the swans.

We are lucky that Kennelly is out injured. So Waite in the forwardline will be a win. Setanta will be better for us than DeLuca against a close playing swans team. Leon Barry will take Fevola.

Hall, O'Loughlin, O'Keefe and Davis must be negated. Hall's opponent is the BIG question. The best match ups IMO would be Thornton on O'Loughlin, Walker on Davis, and Saddington on O'Keefe. That leaves Whitnall on Hall....no I don't like that too much, unless Whitnall can push him out of the 50 like he did with Gardner against Geelong, where his impact will not be on the scoreboard. I don't think Livo has the pace to match with any of these guys.

We have a great opportunity to post a big win this round. Midfielders will have to be aggressive and first in.

I'm really liking the options being discussed in this thread.

And it's all positivity, not the negative shite which has been about lately.

Bondi, what about Livo? Or would you say that he will be dropped this week?

Could end up being...

OUT: DeLuca, Livingston
IN: Prendergast, Saddington

But some say Saddington played well on the weekend, while others say he didn't.

When did Teague get faster?
When will people learn that Teague can't play on quick blokes.
Walker & McGrath will get O'Keefe & Davis.

Get your head out of your arse.

I've seen a lot of Sydney over the last couple of seasons, and their list really isn't as great as some think.

They overachieved last year by winning the flag with a whole-team effort.

Now that Ball's gone, and Keneally is out for a few weeks, the thin-ness of their list is being shown up in great detail.
