Pickett is not scum. He's hard, but fair. That bump from last year was an example of timing gone horribly wrong.

My mate who used to play for Brisbane reckons Vossy was the worst sniper in the AFL at his peak - and was proud of it. He knew when it was game time because the better players would square up within 5 minutes... then he'd burn them up for 50-odd touches...

Marc Murphy is a smart kid who keeps his head 'up' and knows when he's about to take a lick. Carr's was a dog act, but that's football.

As the great office linebacker "Terrible" Terry Tate used to say... "When it's game time, its pain time baby... Whoooooooo"

Pickett is a sniper.....Byron has a habit of his timing going horribly wrong..he always seems to time it that he connects with a player bent over the ball unprotected who doesnt see him coming usually from a distance.
I'd like to see another player get their timing a bit wrong and Byron stretchered off ...

Good post...Pickett is the very definition of a sniper for mine

He Used to be hard but fair. Then his physicality went to his head, and he stopped looking for the ball, and went for guys who were going at the ball.

There's no need for this, and why the AFL doesn't take a stand and rub someone out for an entire season for a dog act is beyond me. Tell me that wouldn't send a message to the Carrs/Medhursts/Farmers of the world.....

Yes, let's beat the thugs by being thugs, what a great plan.

You must relying on the umpires and tribunal then?...Good luck
Sometimes there is only one way for other teams to respect you and that is fight fire with fire....Brisbane were very good at it for three years running.....Collingwood had your game plan....drop the ball and run....apart from being embarrassing it also helped them lose two grand finals....and stuffed a few careers....
If you dont want to respond with equal force how do you intend to stop Darren Milburn next time he adds Marc Murphy to his collection of carlton scalps........or when Brad Scott decide to test out Brad Fishers fitness by using the Nick Reiwoldt method etc etc etc...as our young players get better and come under notice they will cop more treatment, we need to look after them not rely on the system...

No my solution would be to play tough but fair footy, and fly the flag when needed - not to collect someone behind play in retaliation - that's called getting sucked in.

The danger is that we have somebody important sucked in and then we lose them.

I assume that part of our game plan is for our key forwards to remain a target in the forward line. I assume that they arent to get sucked into moving too far down the field. We have other players and plans in place to deal with these tactical outcomes. Why should 'flying the flag' be any different.

Apparently in Ice Hockey the 'Gunfighter' idea is a well known and used tactic. Save your good players from getting suspended by having your 'Gunfighter' on standby. Any agro and bring on the specialist!!! Kind of like the punter in the Gridiron!!

Why is this not a tactic. Sure you're telling somebody to break the rules, but why is that any different to disguising an intentional out of bounds, holding the ball into a pack etc etc. Operating on the fringe of the rules to best advantage.

As a first resort fine. play tough but fair footy but you might find your troops struggling to play decent footy when they have to look over their shoulder all day......fly the flag??..what with....Heath Scotland looked out of his weight division vs Carr and Stevens wasnt much better....Freo knew we had nothing to come back with and thats why they tried it on....we are the weakest team in the comp at dealing with this sort of stuff and had the tone set the day SOS was collected by Milburn and our blokes let it go...the crowd showed more than the players....
Dealing with someone in play or behind play is called getting even in my books when cheap shot artists like Carr and Medhurst dish it out.....you have to stand your ground one day and sort out would be aggressors...

I'd love it if Fox Footy didn't get the footy after 2006 somehow, surely they have less cameras covering the footy than anyone else, and the commentators are disgraceful except for Grybas…

…who is beyond disgraceful.

Actually as a match day caller he's okay I suppose. But IMO he is woeful on WLF, or anything where he's not calling the game. A sit still FFS. Allow a caller to that has a different opinion on WLF to speak for more than one second. And don't be such a wanker. That should cover it.

Medhurst's was a good hip and shoulder on a player with the ball.
I'd love it if one of our players had the ability and attitude to do it.

If I've heard correctly, Medhurst has just beaten the rap and isn't suspended this week.
