Clarke will have another crack at etting on the board next year.

Smorgon wont last.

I wouldnt be surprised if a ticket runs next year against this current lot.

Would anyone like to speculate on who might be the guy who takes over after Smorgon's temporary presidency?

Would Clarke be able to have a crack at it?

He didn't get on the board did he?

He was offered some sort of seat thing wasn't he? Can't remember the specific details.

No.

That was my question really. Can someone from outside of the board be elected as president?

Clarke isnt presidential material.(yet) maybe not ever)

Im not sure if the constitution allows for people to just waltz on.

This current board believes it would be presumptious of Lee to run for president seeing hes only just arrived onto the board.

It seems as tho they have worked out whos doing what among themselves already

Collo just interviewed and in a couple of comments he probably unwittingly confirmed it was time to go.

He started by saying he felt he had run his course and that it was time for new blood. He mentioned most of the people to leave the board were ex-players and he hoped the board was able to attract some recent ex-players to the table.

He was reluctant to endorse anyone for the Presidency, which surprised me. If anything he seemed to indicate a new change was in order. Greg Lee might be in the running sooner than he thought. Or is there more to this announcement than we know?

Collo spoke about the club being in a good strategic position, having a stable relationship with the AFL … but if now was ever a time to plug our new sponsors this was it. And he didn't do it. Worse, in commenting about redeveloping our home ground he still referred to it as Princes Park. Fine for the fan in the outer to make that gaffe, but a guy in Collo's position should have done better for MC Labour and Indesit.

He also commented about his dual role with Telstra Dome, but for fear of satisfying Fatprick's ego I'll let it go. ;)

He said he was not retiring due to health issues, but said it was because he felt the Board needed new, younger people with different ideas, and also some football people. Also mentioned the conflict of interest issue as a part reason, although said it had been managed properly. Said he thought the timing was appropriate, after finishing his 3rd year in office, and that he hoped he was setting an example for change.

I actually thought he might be Synbad.

In today's print version of the "Hun" (I acn't find it on the web), page 3, article, "Collins to quit Blues Throne" it says, "Collins' clout at Board level was eroded last month when directors overtunred his decision to enter a commercial arrangement with The Age newspaper".

Any one know anything about this?

We had a sponsorship offer from the Age.
after the Bluebeggers article the board was horrified. So much so that they actually stopped the sponsorship from going ahead.
Who needs a sponsor thats out their to pants you?

The sponsorship was agreed to in principle but not signed off on.
The pin was pulled.

My question is... why didnt the board do all this before the AGM and allow Collo to resign and open another spot?
Answer is simple... its easier for them this way... everybody goes one step higher up the heirarchy ladder.

Will there be another election for the vacant board position?
