Synbad,

You constantly refer to Mathieson "giving" us the Dan Murphy's sponsorship.

Are you sure about this?

He has NO controlling ownership interest in Dan's. It is a publicly owned business (woolworths) accountable to its board. Whilst Bruce undoubtedly has contacts at Dan's - to suggest that he alone arranged the Dan's sponsorship is a long bow to draw without specific proof.

IMO Bruce is very good for our board - I just want an honest, even handed portrayal of each board member's contribution - without any gilding of the lily.

Ockham

OR.. Matheison gave us Dan Murphys.. if it wernt for Matheison no Dan Murphy sponsorship.

Evidence???Ask anyone around the club... including the marketing blokes or BM himself.

Not that he is one to blow his own horn.

Not gonna argue with any of you guys regarding the pro's and con's of Smorgan or any other dude on our board.Very rarely comment on the commitee side of the club coz all that money, finance sorta stuff is way above my head.
So.i will lead with my chin and say shut the eff up and at least give the bloke a fair go.Who's done this, and who's done that, whats it effen matter.I would have thought our commitee was like a team, and one mans effort was everyones effort. They surely work collectively.AS ONE.TEAM.What does it matter if one contributes more than another.
I actually listened to Smorgan on 3AW this evening.I had never heard him speak before, and i gotta say,he came over very well.Sounds very positive and authorative. And saying that he was PROUD and humble to be the President of The Carlton Football Club struck a chord with me.
Come on guys, lets give him our support.Get behind the guy. After all guys, its Carlton we are talking about, not some johnny come lately shithole that all the media seem hellbent on getting behind.

Yeah but the ace up his sleeve is he will be the one that will go to the AFL for money.

I dont mind that they do that by the way.. but dont tell me they had to have a mutiny so he could go and get money from the AFL and Collo didnt do it....

Fair go Smorgan has a sponsorship initiative : Smorgan Steel sponsor Collingwood's reserves (aka Williamstown).
Maybe the Channel Nine Bullants is only fair?

heard Smorgo on AW this evening and Dwayne Russel was refering to an issue about the previous leadership, Smorgo just said "no point going on about the past all the members want to hear is about the future so lets move on" shot Dwano down which i thought they even were impressed.

Look to the future CFC :)

Now Smorgo, work out where you want the club to go and start getting the message out there.

Interim move in my opinion and I dont agree its the right move and would have preferred Lee and some fresh ideas....silvertails might like it but this club has moved on from that image and needs to be seen as modern, innovative and appealing to the masses....Smorgan isnt the right fit and will only slow our progress until Lee takes over....

100% correct. IMHO

but everything they do right will be someone else's work and everything they do wrong will be their own fault - we know the script, this is all Mills and Boonish, no need to wait, it all turns out swell in the end - doesn't it??????

Very nice DB.
Synbad. When a business is running a multi million dollar debt, has a Legends Stand that nobody sits in, a ground that nobody comes to watch footy at, a football team that has lost 83% of its matches in the past four seasons, a former President trashing our brand, the media delighting in our plight, we need a sense of stability.

Its an old and overused cliche, and Im not a fan of cliches but this one readily applies. 'You have got to go back to go forward.' What Smorgon has done is ensure the debt remains as minimal as possible, played a MAJOR part in negotiating the AFL's lease with Princess Park (and I know first hand the amount of work he has put into these negotiations), given Pagan and the Match Committee full authority to continue blooding the younger players, and has played as big a part as any in "turning around the ship" before we can begin to do all the wonderful things you talk about again (eg: increased promotion, merchandising... etc)

All Im saying is give this guy a chance. Expect significant attempts to reunify the club that has fractured significantly over the years, expect closer liason and communication with supporters (even via this website and others), expect strong and disciplined leadership but with a notable 'spreading of the load' amongst deputies as well.

For those of you complaining about Graham turning down a breakfast slot on SEN-All 16 of you who listen to that station in Melbourne would hopefully understand that its not the best exposure possible. He spoke on 3AW in Prime Time to a much larger audience, has had significant coverage in The Age and will have some more detailed interviews over the weekend in both the Age and the HUN.

He has been in office for 2 days- we finally have a board absolutely determined to make Carlton a force both on and off the field again. We have outsiders wanting a spot on the board and a President determine to 'listen' to others.

Let us just wait and see what happens..

Is the July 1 announcement the official AFL press conference whereby they announce their assistance of $1.5m?
