I will say that it seems Smorgon has been everywhere in the papers since he took over as President. Whether this was just pre-planned stuff that even Collo would have announced or whatever, IMO that's besides the point. We have Smorgon actively telling people in the Age and in the Hun etc and through the media in general more about the club, more transparency which encourages members or potential members because they feel like they are being kept informed.

Yes, he doesn't have the football nous that Collo has but how many times did we cry out to Carlton to give us more information. It was infuriating at times.

At least there seems to be some popular press - even if he isn't the best performer on TV or radio, at least by giving interviews to the newspapers he has the chance to put the club on the front page in a positive way.

I hope this continues and I will support him if he can maintain this.

Smorgon said that he oversaw the move of Carlton to Telstra Dome and that Collins had no input into the switch. He did admit, however, that the AFL pushed heavily for the club to ignore arguments to play home games at the MCG.

No doubt this will raise a few eyebrows.

Why? Everybody knew at the time that the Board preferred the G and the AFL was pushing us towards the Dome. Hunter told me in person that the AFL told the Board that they would stop a move that involved more games at the G and that the current arrangemnet is the most games at the G we could achieve. Also remember that the Prelim issue with interstaters and the scheduling of poor crowd games at the G was used to stop a Carlton move to the G. I thought this was reasonable public knowledge in this forum...

Not suggesting that it wasn't public knowledge, just that the blatantly Pro-MCG crowd would be pissed to be reminded that the AFL seemingly forced our hand so much.

Personally, I'm not all that fussed either way, but I know a lot of people wanted PP or MCG and nothing else, so to be reminded that we were essentially told what to do by our best mates at AFL HQ will probably rekindle a few old spot fires.
