A better team would have killed us given amount of ball they had up forward,
Richmond are a ordinary unit going nowhere and thats why it hurts..the scoreboard flattered us...
But this is a positives thread so here are my positives...

Houlihan...dare I say it..probably our best player last night along with Walker..the Houligan won the footy well, including a lovely no look handpass in traffic and disposed of it very well apart from one poor kick early and that because lance went he wrong way...Houla kicks to space on his right and doesnt go the hook kick but Lance didnt remember that..
Houlihan look our most polished player ....

Walker....great work ethic as usual and gave us some run....now in our top 5 players and just seems to be getting better...consistent and hungry for the footy and you cant ask much more of him..

Murphy..lovely goal and like Walker doesnt give up...needs to start on the ground...

Waite....made good position and tried hard but coulnt take a mark but as Gary Lyon said is about two games away from a bag of goals....

Scotland....best game for a while...thought he contested well and put his body on the line running into danger and did it well..thought he like Houlihan used the ball well ..been on Scotlands case this year but happy to praise him when he does well and it shows he can do it if he wants to...

Lance...was ok...down forward early and then copped Richo down back and while Richo beat him at least he did try and as everyone knows if Richo is switched on then no one can stop him so I cant bag Lance and thought he did ok...

Elwood - Wallsy last night absolutely bagged Scotland and Houlihan which seems at odds to what you have said. What do you think he was basing his statments on? We didn't seem to be getting that much from our mids. As an observer from far away I would be keen to know your thoughts.

When Houlihan kicked it to Fev he hit him every time. Almost every other kick was crap. That dinky little kick from half back on the southern stand side was attrocious.

Not all his fault though, who do you kick it to when there is no forward structure

I guess Walls was looking at the overall result form our midfield and I guess he accused Scotland, Houlihan and co of over possessing the ball but not doing much with it in terms of setting up forward chances and he probably had a fair point...my take on the game was I as looking at individuals and how they won the footy..Houlihan and Scotland have been on my hit list for not contesting properly and getting easy kicks..I thought they both worked hard to get the footy whcih pleased me but I guess walls has a valid point about what they did with it and what it got the team overall.....had a few mates though who also didnt get a lot of result for their work...lot of possies for not much result probably equals bad footy so Walls has me covered in retrospect...

Taff, with Houla Walls was specifically pointing to a bit where he tried to spin away from an oncoming Richo & coughed the ball up, resulting in a goal. It was either in the 1st or the 3rd. He was tough on Scotland for blazing away on 2 occassions rather than going to a losse man.

OK positives: Walker will be one of the league's best in 3 years & I'm thrilled to pieces for him. His handball in the centre to a running Kouta in the 4th was superb, as was his goal on the run. Having a great season so far.

Simmo did some nice things.

Bentick's courage in that contest with Richo was what keeps me going to the footy.

Have to agree with you on that one CK, that contest of Bentick v Richo was brilliant. Well done AB.

We missed some easy shots as well...but you're right...look at it as a positive in that 8 points didn't hurt our percentage.

Exactly, both teams kicked badly, they had 20 more inside 50's. So they probably should have won by 4 goals. Not a mauling.

4 goals? More like 8+

Yes they had 20 more inside 50s....but only 3 more scoring shots? How did they deserve to win by 8+ goals then???

Obviously Murph and Walks the big positives

That handball was pure gold. I reckon Walks has the quickest hands in football.

When Simmo got the sit in the last quarter and backed himself to take it (and retain possession) I though he may have saved the game. Then we went forward and butched things for the 50th time of the night. :(

The best think about Bentick was he knew Richo was coming like a freight train and he still went. I hope that footage gets shown to a couple of others during the week.

I think Russell is doing at lot of 1%ers out there. I've seen him put some good shepards on.

Fevola chasing and tackling... i really hope the umpires start to reward him because if he doesnt get rewarded soon, he will stop doing the one percenters.

Walkers improvement in his game has been a positive
Houla getting the ball and using it

Mark Maclure said he can see definite improvement, particularly in the competitiveness and not dropping our heads. Just need a few more quality players.

Look it's just one game. Fev, Waite & Fisher are a bit out of condition. Just dropped too many marks & kicked poorly. That will improve over next 1-2 weeks. Once that happens, we'll look a lot better overall, midfield will have some options to kick to & ball won't rebound all the time.

A lot of positives from last night's game:

We are a better team than last year.

We had an excellent start to the match.

We kept persisting for 4 Q's and could have snatched the game.

We had no reported players.

We had no injuries.

We almost beat the umpires.

We unveiled future match winners in Walker, Murphy, Simpson, Houla and Bentick. Now I believe they will win matches for us. So do they.

Houlihan, Walker and Murphy are all class.

Fevolas kicking will be better next week.

Kouta's back in form giving 100%.

Russell surprised me because I wasn't convinced with his selection. He looked sharp and light on his feet. Reminded me of John Gould. Will be better for the experience.

Waite could have won the game for us. He's back and will get better. Another match winner.

Richo in form is unstoppable, so a good job on him from Lance. Lance was brilliant at CHF (kicking though?)

Bannister looks like he belongs and will get better from the run.

Scotland ran harder than in previous 4 games, and played well.

Stevens, will be better, and will learn that when he runs hard, he breaks tags and when he doesn't he will be missing.

Backline did really well man on man. It was not their man who got the ball inside Richmonds 50 over 50 times.

With Hartlett in the gym, he should get thicker and stronger in the upper body, and will be the one most likely to tackle freaks (big, fast, stamina) like Richo, who was too big and strong for any of our defenders.

Bentick's disposal was good, and real strong player.

McLaren did well in the BP against the resting rucks.

Overall, we are heading in the right direction. I thought everyone had a dip, and can expect huge improvement next week from Stevens, Fisher, Betts, Lappin and French.

We have the personnel to win games, but it will only happen on a consistent basis when they have improved their skills and teamwork. Everyone knows we could have been 5-0 and on top of the ladder with a little bit of luck and better starts; so if it is not to be in 2006, it will in 2007.

We should have won.

This time last year, we were being flogged, left right and centre.

This year, we're a handful of kicks away from being 5-0 or 4-1 rather than 1-4.

I'm feeling disappointed, yet positive about what's to come.
