In the midst of all this overwhelmingly depressing verbage about Carlton's fortunes I often wonder how we true and faithful supporters coped in the past without the outpouring of often juvenile filth and spleen that seems to have infested our so-called supporters sites. I have always believed that supporters actually support their clubs through thick and thin and that they have always been able to make their genuine concerns apparent.
I am sick of bad language, whether it is hidden by clever use of asterisks, hashes etc. I am distressed by the cancer of badly spelled and expressed English - Perhaps we should not mourn our Club's current desperate state but mourn the passing into the mists of time of the English Language. I am sick of the negativity that surrounds this and other lists and will do my best to stay away from them.
From now on I will only ever look up those posts which provide information on team composition as selected and what is happening to our VFL Sides. One can only imagine our computer-literate players and officials who have to put up with this rubbish. I for one do not have to. Like the many addicts I have seen over the years I have allowed myself to spend far too much time on this essentially wasteful process than is good for me.
I have not been much of a contributor to these sites over the past few years believing that you should not contribute to any discussion unless you have something germaine to offer to the futherment of the discussion.
So without further ado I leave - I hope the kiddies will mature with time. It is, after all, just a Game.

yes it is hard and oft times this site doers get you down. I planned to leave a while ago (and here I am still ) but then verbs (of all people considering he and I have had a few stouches, online of course) pointed out that just as you say the game is only a game, this in a way is only a game too. Either enjoy it or leave it. I (mostly) enjoy it nowadays.

Hopefully as the kids turn it around simply by maturing we'll all calm down and find it easier to enjoy football again - I must admit this year is hard - mainly I think because a) my son just is not enjoying watching carlton anymore and this saddens and angers me and b) the standard of football is shite. (sorry clever disgusing of swear word).

as for the spelling really, people who complain about online spelling are missing the point for mine. Online is much more conversational. Don't think penning a latter or an essay, this a robust discussion in a pub.

I do not put in the effort for correction of keyboard errors (which most spelling mistakes are) or true mispelt words when typing on talking Carlton, When I submit professional work I do. Most people here would be the same. The Language is fine, it is just changing, as it always has and must.

as for the swearing. sticks and stones and all that. Words, even swear words, only have the power the reader gives them.

I hope, like me, you can come back and start enjoying this place again. Don't forget the Blueseum, a peaceful reflective place, and read the Ghost, that'll take your worries away. 8)

Well, that does not mean it is OK that every thread ends up in personal attacks and sniping. This place used to feel friendly and welcoming. Not any longer.

Also, the general quality of the forum has deteriorated big time. At times it is very hard to find interesting or informative posts in between all the noise and puberterian behaviour. (Not that I have problems with some light hearted content).

And why is it necessary to use foul language including calling one of our players a “Câ€

Would be nice and help filter some of the noise that makes it hard to find the good posts.

This place is, in my opinion, a recreational facility. It's never going to be to the liking of everyone, otherwise every Carlton supporter in the world would be a member. The times I find it dull, or tiresome, or annoying, or no fun, I find something elses to do.

No matter how seriously we take ourselves, and pretty much everyone on here takes themselves rather seriously, at the end of the day it's a vehicle for having a bit of fun.

The beauty of being an adult is, if you don't like doing something, you just don't do it, unlike when you're a kid and you HAVE to learn the recorder.

If you don't find it any fun, then it's best to avoid it.

Keep on smiling. :)

It's a systemic problem with the internet, anybody can talk here.

Whereas you can give them flick or give them a hint in a social context, or in the case of under-aged types, you can never hear from them, here it's everyone throwing their weight around and expressing their ideas.

Sometimes it's great, sometimes it's pathetic. But that's just the way it is. If it doesn't light your fire, stop and take a look at what you want from the place and if you can't find it, stay away for the sake of your well-being. ;)

I suspect others will now come along and highlight areas of my post and have a crack at me or laugh. Good on you for having something to say to those people but keep in mind you'll be hard pressed making me fire back in spite.

Hey Acudoc,

Completely understand where you are heading this, it can indeed get frustrating, and like you I am pretty much an observer these days.

(P.S. If you plan on posting again, you may want to put a line between paragraphs / sentences .... a bit hard to read :) )
