If Smorgon had any idea about the media, he would have known that they sensationalise things and even if you want to get the facts across, you'll have to make sure they play on air the thing you want brought across.

Very naive and very unprofessional.

This club needs a complete sweep of the broom from the Board to the coach.

100% right - but he's on the outer with the clowns in from the Carlton 1 ticket - got their noses right out of joint that he had the temerity to suggest he could lead the club better. Half the posters on this site could lead the club better!!!!!

So is anyone seriously considering a tilt?

Or is it just rumour-mongering?

That's part of the problem, isn't it....

And there's also some Marxism in there as well.

I don't mean Karl, I mean Groucho. As in: (paraphrasing) Anyone who wants the job should be immediately ruled out.

Speaking of mongering.

I think this might start to motivate a few people KK, I might try and motivate someone myself... not sure how successful that will be.

The difficulty is that if there's a string of unsuccessful candidates, do we then dissolve further into rabble, as the current board does nothing beyond shoring up their own, shoddy, positions?

We NEED someone with passion, with charisma, with media savvy, with access to people with business smarts if he doesn't have huge amounts himself, and the ability to bind all parts of the Carlton family into a cohesive and unified force.

We need a Navy Blue Eddie.

What about someone well respected with business credentials that can surround himself with more media savvy people and motivated and creative businessmen, who can learn to be media-savvy?

Jack branches out to become a little media-savvy, not the other way around. Jack's downfall was his business methods not moving with the times, not his overall approach to the job.

The whole club is as media savvy as a wet mop.

There doesn't seem to be anyone on the board (or the club as a whole) who has any idea how to use the media to work in the club's favour.

And don't give me the lack of resources line. You don't need money to speak about the club passionately.

Actually, I told you guys already that there was going to be another crisis.

The only thing is that the crisis was a bit worse than even I thought...

Seems to me that from here that 2006 is going to be just one giant crisis that we all cant wait to see the end of...

Highlight of 2006 will be the draft picks.

Do we get 1,2 and 17 if we finish say with only 3 wins in 06 and 4.5 in 2005?

You know, I really liked the 'Navy blue eddie' line.

The closest thing to a navy blue Eddie that we have is Greg Lee.

Maybe when he wished Smorgon well after his election he wasnt as naive as I thought he was, waiting for him to completely stuff up.

One can at least live in hope...

My main hope right now is that Smorgon is replaced soon by someone with at least a little basic ability to spin things.

If Agro can get a million dollars, I wonder if it would be better spent hiring a headhunting firm to create a "ticket for the people"... a team of 12 people (we can help them out with names), who they can interview and scrutinise, while also enticing onto the Carlton board.... people with business acumen, marketing savvy, and passionate about Carlton.... then we can de-throne the majority of THIS board at an EGM paid for the rest of the $1,000,000.... then the new board can set such strict development expectations on Pagan that he'll be forced to comply with our (and their) wishes or retire gracefully.

A good way to shake out an underperforming employee is to change his boss and have new measures put in place.

We're in just as urgent need for an EGM as we were in 2002, unfortunately we probably couldn't afford one right now.

Make no mistake, this board will be remembered with utter scorn and Smorgon remembered as a pathetic useless short-term president
