What I feel we need is an ex player that's not too long out of the game to coach the club. Someone that was hard and tough with a great football brain.

Brett Ratten is a former assistant coach at AFL level who did amazing things for the Melbourne midfield and is currently senior coach in one of the country leagues. Apart from that, he isn't 60 years old!

Brett Ratten...where are you?

Any thoughts?

I share Ian Chappell's view that you only need a coach to get the team to the ground.

Let's start a petition to Make Brett out of Rattan.

Then if his coaching's bad, he can be our whipping boy.

Geddit?

Only lasted a year at Melbourne. Why do you think he's no longer there and in the country?

I would put him as an assistant/ midfield coach first. If he is good enough then he might be worth a punt.

It would be wrong to appoint Ratten as head coach now because he still has a lot to learn. Remember Country coaching is completey different to AFL coaching

Let's sign them all and try to set the new world record for the largest senior coaching panel.

Sign them all on 3-year million dollar deals while we're at it - after all the AFL's picking up our tabs now!!

Rats is nowhere near senior material yet but lets be fair.
He was midfield coach with the Dees and they rated him very highly.
He left of his own volition, they wanted to retain him.

The Dees midfielders were glowing in there praise.

From memory Ratts is coaching Norwood in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne.

can you guys just stop this petition shit. All these shit about getting rid of Denis is absolute bull shit and you guys need to give it a rest. He is one of the best coaches in the AFL and in my opinion in the best in the comp. So stop bagging the coach, the players and the club. This is the time when the club needs the support of the supporters and all this negative talk really gives me the shits.

Ratten would be a good midfield assistant, dunno if hes ready for a "head job" yet :P Jonas would be a good senior coach if we were to get rid of Pagan. I woul try something like:
Jonas - head coach
Ratts - midfield
Hudson - fowards
TD - backs

Keep TD for a bit of experience IMO.

Fevolution you have to be kidding.
Pagan is the worst coach in the business and doesn't deserve to be paid out. He has simply exacerbated our position and it was my view right from the beginning that he and Mick Martyn should have stayed at the Kangas. Since he has arrived, we have become soft, degenerated in skill level and have not been able to post a decent score. Every week it is the same excuse: "We had some positives but we have to work on our skills." Plain and simple: skill work is a fundamental in all clubs and there is no point practicing it now. 'Pagan's Paddock' is an absolute joke. Ypu'd think after 10 years opposition clubs have figured it out. Then you wonder why former champs of the club refuse to come back. If we want to see our club improve then the resignation of Pagan is a must. BRING ON THE PETITION!
