“I am excited that Denis (Pagan) sees that in me, that he wants me to play a defensive role on some of these really great players — (Jason) Akermanis, (Andrew) McLeod, Buckley last weekend — and for me it is a thrill to play on those blokes and good to see he has the confidence in me to play those roles. I think it is where I have played my best footy, when I get a role to play,’’ Walker said.

He is such a wonderful kid. I can't wait to see him really start to dominate. As gloomy as it all looks now, imagine when Walker, Murphy, Russel and Kennedy are 22-24 and really in their prime with Fevola, Waite and Thornton being the older statesman!

Yeah! How lucky are we to have a kid like AW?

Good read Michael Gleeson.

Seems Andy's really coming on. Hope he sticks with the blues through thick & thin & remains a blue for life.

I love the passion!!

And he's learning to focus that intensity, which can only mean good things for us!

Bright times are a'comin, I just know it!

Nice to see a positive article about us in a newspaper...

And excellent to hear how focussed and passionate Walks is. If only every player on our list had the same fire.

A definite positive for Pagan.

Great article and as such I don't really want to hijack the thread by talking about the thing that this article most clearly showed to me.

We have kids on the one hand who seem to be okay with Pagan, but then we have senior players who don't want to tow the line.

Something's not quite right.

Having said that, I think Walker was frustrated with having to play those defensive roles but now he sees the positives - and is using it to his advantage this year. Very accountable but also using his flair to good effect. He's got to take one of those speccies though one day...could well be mark of the decade the height he goes up to.

I didn’t speak the whole way home to Echuca with mum and dad. When we got home I jumped out my window in just my footy shorts and a singlet in the rain and I was running around shivering cold for hours trying to kick the footy into trees and basketball posts, dodging my dog Denzel," Walker said.

“I was angry with myself and I thought I had to learn how to play in those conditions, I thought it was going to help me because you are young and you see what AFL people are doing on the news, how they train in the wet and we always used to stop training if it started raining so I thought I had to find out how to play in wet conditions.

Wow.. wow. I knew that he had a real drive to improve himself but I didnt know that it was this ingrained, or that it went back so far.

Quote:
He began training on his own so that by the time the remainder of the group returned after their break he had already added four kilograms to his skinny frame.

WOW. This is committment. We need more guys around the club like this. He will be a great player for us.

Quote:
As a dad I would love to see him given a bit more freedom. I have seen it over the years as a parent where he is standing on people’s heads and dominating a game from the middle and kicking five or six goals out of the midfield and doing those flashy things ...

Its settled daddy walker wants to see his son unleashed... so Pagan, UNLEASH HIM!!! :!:

It was with Ben that Andrew would jump off the roof of the house as a six-year-old holding a plastic bag over his head to see if he could float. It was with Ben he jumped from the roof of the house onto a trampoline to see how far they could bounce. It was with Ben that he threw a chair down the chimney, and again it was just to see what would happen.

Well I used to jump off the roof of our house with my brother, but not into a trampoline to see how far I could bounce.

Great article on AW. He is really coming along nicely this year. His kicking is improving. He is going to be an enormous talent for us in years to come.

Nah what that articles illustrates to me is that Walker is a winner and has a winners attitude as do some of the kids... and thats what weve been missing with the senior players.
