Can we win this game?
I say no because Fev gets towelled by Hudgton and that cuts off our major avenue to goal.
Hudgton has just received one week :), Hamill is out, Kosi is already out.
We have lost Fish
I will back Lance to beat Gehrig. This just leaves Reiwoldt and a battle in the midfield.
This could be a very interesting contest.

I think we'll go closer than we have in our last 8 or so outings against them. Their injuries/suspensions will level the field a bit. We won't mis Fish as much.

We need another big game out of Bentick.

This is surely our biggest chance to beat them since 2001

The Saints don't like the G. Hope it's wet…

I think we can win it. The Saints aren't playing that great at the moment, and Luke Ball - one of their big 3 against us - is quite a bit down from his 2005.

We must stop Dal SAnto in the middle with the hardest / best tag we can find. Not sure who that is. Hayes as well runs all day and is very hard to macth up for work ethic.

Riewoldt and Gehrig loom as troublesome match-ups but Riewoldt hasn't really killed us in the past. Id say Whitnall on him and Thornton on Gehrig, who I think has started to slow down off the mark.

Hudghton out is great for us. Last year Koshitscke annihilated us around the middle and in the forward line and him being out is a huge plus. Even Ackland did well last year against Bryan, and he has been in the ressies.

A win will require a massive effort from the midfield - we need to scrounge and break even from here. Hope Walker plays midfield rather than defence this week.

If we do that, we have the forward line to trouble them - they are a little short down back, particularly without Hudghton.

Yeah I give us a fair old chance, but $3.00? Where is the value in that! I want us to be at least $4.50 with the bookies.

I'd certainly be looking at taking us 4 goals in, though those odds aren't up yet.

Will be a very very ugly game.

Saints will belt us

They have been belting us for 4-5 years now and they will belt us again

I would love nothing more than a win this week however I can not see it happening if we can only beat a seriuosly depleted Essendon* by 33 there is no way we will get near them

We're coming off a win.

They're coing off a loss.

Kosi, Hamill, Hudgston out.

Fev, Whitnall and Stevo in good form.

Ball carrying a dodgy groin.

Riewoldt with the quasi-permanent yipps

MCG

Showers forecast for Sat-Mon.

Grant Thomas still coaching the Saints.

Did I leave anything out? If we're not half a chance this weekend we never will be.

Not as silly as some might suggest. Maybe just maybe if the need is there..

I'd be tempted to put Walker on Dal Santo. I reckon we'd win out of that.

Why can we beat them? Last year we lost to them by 80 points. Amazingly, based on last weeks teams, we are missing 9 players and them 8 players from the teams that played that day:

Carlton:

Out: Livo, Teague, Johnson, Campo, Longmuir, Russell, Bowyer, Prendergast, Bryan
In: Murphy, Kennedy, Saddington, Bentick, McLaren, Betts, De Luca, Fisher, Wiggins

Saints:

Out: Penny, Clarke, Peckett, Kosi, Guerra, Powell, McGough, Milne
In: Harvey, Riewoldt, Gram, Fiora, Montagna, Murray, Blake, Hamill

Obviously in addition to the above, we'll be without Fisher, them without Hudghton & Hamill. They regain Riewoldt and Harvey from last year, and you'd expect Milne to play.

I reckon our 2006 team is significantly stronger than the 2005 model. Their team is stronger for Riewoldt & Harvey, weaker for Kosi & Penny. Throw in Ball having suspected OP, Gehrig being one step closer to neanderthal, and the Saints general poor form, I reckon we can do it.

I don't know if I'd be that optimistic. Dal Santo is one of the premium on ballers in the comp. But give Walks the job and we'll see how he goes. If he can attack as well it will make it interesting, especially if Dal Santo doesn't pay him respect.

By win I mean that if he can keep Dal Santo to 15 possessions, and picks up 10 himself in the process, then the relative benefit to the Blues will be greater.

Hopefully Pagan starts the game off with a more traditional setup and doesn't employ the flood from the beginning of the match.
If we play this negative flooding game plan, we are no chance  but if we try to take them on one on one then we at least give ourselves a chance of a win or of course a belting.

By how much did we need to beat Essendon* for you to be happy?

I could not care less if we win or lose this week, it is totally irrelevant. The kids just need to keep showing us something and hopefully this week another new kid gets a run.

Denis, Bower must play. I want to see what he is like running on the wide expanses of the G.

Goddard on Kennedy should be an interesting match up.
