Yes SB, felling pretty shithouse about the Fish going down. If he's gonna be a pack marker he really does need more meat on the bones for sure. Wishing for a speedy recovery coz WE NEED YA FISH!!!!!

Now, should we promote a rookie?

If so, who & why?

I'd like to see Jessie Smith given a crack.
All the other rookies are either physically not ready or not performing well enough to play senior footy.
If Jessie shows something and can help out AB in the engine room he's a keeper. If he doesn't show anything the writings on the wall I think.

Probably no-one at this stage. 3 of them are playing in the '3rds'. Flint was travelling well but got concussed and hasn't been flying like before. No pressing claim.

Smith is still to truly impress and if Blackers cant crack it for a game no point elevating Smith who is even further behind. To promote a rookie their form really should be pressing for senior selection

I would promote Batson and give him some games in the seniors and see what he can do.....has been in good form in the Bullants ressies.
Ruckman/Goalkickers are important and not easy to find....while Smith and Flint probably have more claim to a spot I would punt on Batson for the sake of development.....Deluca has not cemented a spot and I would try Batson in Delucas role.....

*Hold on a moment whilst i put my coaches hat on*

Now that Fisher is out, my entire game plan has changed........................

1) Josh Kennedy to fill the void of Fisher
2) Waite to be moved into an 'On-Ball' Role.
3) Deluca to be dropped, replaced with Setanta.
4) Ryan Jackson to be promoted due to LTI.

My reasons for this/....................................

1) JK is the type of player who will take longer to develop - BUT - will develop much better playing with the big boys (See development of other players suchs as Carey & Riewoldt)
2) The idea of Waite as an on-baller gives me an errection!!!!! :-)
3) DeLuca is crap! The direction and style of the game yesterday changed almost IMMEDIATLY after DeLuca was replaced in the ruck by McClaren.
And........................I think Sentanta can ruck quite well. I think the thing that is killing Sentantas Development is the fact that nobody can quite figure out where he is best suited. We play him down back, on the wing, up forward, etc, etc, etc. That's probably NOT the best thing to do to a kid when he's still learning the game. He's almost 200cm and around 96kg's. Put him in the ruck and then tell him to push forward a bit. Try it for say 6 weeks and see what happens.
4) Ryan Jackson could have been a late 1st rounder / 2nd round pick last year. I have no idea how he missed getting drafted! Rookie my ass - this kid is fantastic. Whack him on the wing now! He ain't that light, sure he could do with some beefing up, but he will relish the chance to play a game with the seniors.
Talks of him of being slow are crap!

Plus the one thing that's missing from Dennis' game plan is a midfield that runs through the centre and that can kick a goal on the run................Not entirley his fault, i just don't think we have the midfielders to do this.

Stevens yes,
Kouta - needed to clear the ball first.
Murphy - let him settle in first.
Waite - i think maybe!
Bentick - maybe

But by putting Jackson into the midfield / wing it could create more opportunities.

Oh - and i'll give Bower another 2 weeks........if he continues the way he is, i'll promote him to Walkers role freeing up 1AW to the midfield/wing posistion.

You know that errection i get thinking about Waite in the midfield - well you SERIOUSLY don't want to know what happens when i think of a midfield of Waite, Murphy & Walker.............................

But then again.........................................................Whadda i know anyways!

I'd promote Smith and let him have his chance to show the Club what he has to offer. It his last year as a rookie if I'm not mistaken and we will have to decide if we delist him or promote him (2 year standard contract??).
Might as well try him out now and see what he has got, instead of being forced to decide on put him on a new senior contract or just delisting him without seeing him in the seniors.
He really has it all against him at this stage as there are others he must displace and his last injury has set him back a long way.
If the club has decided already to delist him then I'd pick Flint as from the sounds of it he can play at VFL level so we may as well try him in the seniors to see if he can handle that.

I agree Jackson.....he would add a bit of run and grunt that we lack in the midfield.

He reminds me of Swan McKay the way he takes pack marks.

You're basing that on the memory of 263 games that Swan played and about 40 that Fisher's played?

He's a kid of just 22......Swan played till he was 32.

i'm with danny on this one ... love the fish and would love him to become better than swan cos that would make fish one of the best ever!!!!

swan was i think in his 2nd season in 1970 ... watch him take pack mark after pack mark against len thompson (who was 6 ft 7!!)
