My understanding from a VERY GOOD source is that Lance will stay and he is 99% to be signed over the next cpl of days... that Campo will stay as noone wants him.. (so we have to keep him)... .. that the club will continue with Kouta as Captain.. so its more of the same...

Lappin looks gone!!!!!.. as the club will not bend for him....but will do its backflips elsewhere... making Lappin the biggest patsy since Lee Harvey Oswald...

PS... i hope the club continues to do backflips and backflips on that plan... and grows some balls instead of worrying about memebers and what the supporters will think if we make too many changes and post a huge loss at the one time...

I think we need to see change!!!!... culture change and we can handle a couple of years of pain.. if they continue to rebuild the list and the culture to players that want to play for the jumper FIRST.. and the money is a by product.... not the other way around...

I want to see the responsibility of leading spread around the kids and players who will be there in a couple of years...

I want to see a long term plan...

I dont care about losses .. even if we go to the AFL for a handout while we get all this right....!!!!

I think we are all big enough to give the club time to get itself sorted out properly instead of allowing it to be paralysed with fear.. too scared to go forward because of short term perceptions.

Its going to take time and we are not 2 players short of playing finals footy like a senior official told me!!!!!
Thats a club either trying to fool me.. or fooling itself...!!!

but i thought Lance was gone Synners.. please explain :-D . Whits could be an all australian backman next year ireckon.

Joshua.. your mate Larry also told us he was gone...

All Australian backman is what Larry says he will be if we keep him.... but you know what???

Larry has no clue about footy!!!

And ill bet you right here right now.. $200 to TC sponsorship that Lance will NOT be an AA defender come 2006..!!!

Put your money where your mouth is Joshua...!!!!
Game????

amazing what a full season can do for a player isnt it.

he is fit, and properly fit, for probably the first time in 5 years.

he always had the talent, it was his body that was not up to the task.

he appears to have got his body right - and now he is reaping the rewards.

good on you big red, you have been a joy to watch the last few weeks.

I love how everyone likes to rub Whitnalls form in Synbads face, when almost EVERYONE(including myself) was saying the exact same things he said last year, only we were all about 6 months behind him..

The truth is Whitnall has been in very good form in a bottom 4 team. Wallsy and co wouldnt be talking about it if it wasnt a suprise..

We should all just be happy that he's playing well, not that he's playing well and Synbad doesnt like him..

I dont mind him......

you have no idea how well i want to see him play...

noooooooooo idea.....

hes surprised me... i still doubt him ...

and ive never changed in wanting us to build a team for ten years not 2 or 3...

i think thats what ive always been about since ive been on these boards.

What Lance has done for 7 weeks surprises me but i wouldnt go sell my house to bet he will do it for the wholke of this year let alone for the next 2 or three...

I really dont see him playing good footy beyond 28.

Im happy with his output for the first time in 4 or 5 years...

But right now????Its not about Lance for me.. im skipping that generation and focussing on the kids.. and Fev...

By kids im including the wiggo Sporn and Livo year too...

Just on the topic of Lance and our future....

Our forward line is jammed packed.. and everyone was encouraged by the form of Kennedy....

Now we still have a developing Hartlett and then Bower Edwards and Flint that all look like prospects for the next 10 years...

what do we do with them???

What we really need going forward is a kid like.. did you see Courtney Dempsey???... a bit of pace and skill and plenty of midfield dash....

First gamer too...

We need midfielders. with run....

TEN YEAR midfielders to go with all of our other developing kids...

so they can mature and peak together.. and in 3 or 4 years time.. emerge as a power with a tllt at a flag....

Lance wont be here then...

We are still 2 drafts behind IMHO.

We need a Gibbs or another gun midfielder (I will bow to Cazzesman's expert opinion on who the better ones are.

Id go a kid like Hansen / Thorp with the first pick....
Absolute gun athletic talls are hard to get...

Then id be looking at taking midfielders... all the way....

And id be trying to entice Radar Reilly through the PSD ( i think hes out of contract)..

Then again next year....

From what we have and the next two drafts we will be set up for the future....

From then its like cooking muffins... theyre in the oven and youre waiting for the bell to say theyre ready...

In the mean time you just keep picking the best kids you can... and making sure we develop them properly...

If he continues this form trade him for some decent picks or players OR make him Captain. :)

So I had to quote you benny to see what that size 6 word was. I was one of the ones that was right behind Lance last season. You can check out my history if you want (I can't be bothered). However, Lance did have a very good year coming 3rd in our B&F. I know that we were wooden spoon, but it still meant that he was better than 35 other players. I hope that he is our captain next year even if he only has 3 or 4 seasons left. He will teach our kids more about footy than Pagan ever will (ouch!).

I must admit I'm partial to the odd muffin: chocolate, blueberry... take your pick.

For the first two picks in the draft we should take the best available player clearly. I agree we need more speedy midfielders, but in reality we could do with some further quality all over the ground. We still have a way to go yet.

And Stevens won't be here then either. Should we get rid of him?

I agree we need midfielders. This draft as you would well know is expected to be one of if not the best ever so there's ample opportunity to draft these midfielders of which you speak.

Synbad if the blokes you mentioned above like Bower, Hartlett, Edwards etc are good enough then they will force their way into the side whether Lance is playing or not! I don't think it's a matter of Lance keeping them out of the side. And if Lance is playing like this then there's no way known you'd want him out of the side!

Synbad I reckon deep down you know that Lance is going nowhere.

"he won't be part of our next premiership team, get rid of him"

It's a theory I just can't get my head around. Jonathan Brown won't be part of Brisbane's next premiership. Nick Riewoldt won't be part of St Kilda's

Lance is our most notable on field leader. Synbad in addition to pushing the wage arguments for Whitnall and Kouta (which I totally agree with for what it's worth), you've also cried out that the club needs leadership more than anything else.

Leaders!

We have a natural one in big red who is capable of playing 2 key roles when the situation arises.

If - IF his form continues in the current state, we'd be foolish to trade him away for a promising, albeit unknown quantity in the draft.

We're going to have low picks, no doubt about that. We only beat the bombers, we're still rubbish. But you can see the effect that Lance has on the field in his current mindset.

Obviously we re-assess after a full season and see where he's at then, but "not being part of our next premiership" is a crazy argument. We'll need the strong leaders to even get the young blokes in a position to take over.

I stick by it - Kouta, play footy. Lance, you're the captain. See the way the players responded to Lance after the game, he pushed them to all corners of the ground to thank the fans. Superb.

How much credit should we give to Pagan for his sudden turn around after all it was him who decided to play him down back and his form has definitely improved since then

Could this be a coaching Master Stroke by the Great Denis Pagan

whichever way it goes, Lance playing good football for us can only be a big positive. either we keep him and he adds value on the field, or we trade him into the superdraft (and in the form he's currently in, he'd definitely have some currency for a team that's close). either way, we win.

Did anyone else notice that after the game against Essendon* it was Lance that directed all of the players to spread out around the MCG and thank the supporters. It was his initiative & he has leader stamped all over him.

Like cooking muffins Synbad, interesting analogy - I like it!

However, no point undercooking those muffins. They need the right consistency of young & experienced to ensure the batch turns out just right.

Whilst it is most likely that Lance won't play in our next premiership, the young guys need guidance - at present Lance is giving it in spades.

You've got to have a good oven to cook the muffins properly as well, we have a decades old General Electric that is falling apart, we need a brand new top of the line Smeg.
