Blues Sign Scholarship Player

The Carlton Football Club is pleased to advise that Josh Fenaroli has been signed to a 2-year contract under the new AFL (NSW/ACT) Scholarship Program.

Fenaroli, a 16 year-old from the Pennant Hills Football Club in Sydney is 180cm, 75kg.

The newly introduced NSW AFL Scholarship Scheme allows each AFL club to sign a maximum of two players per year.

To be eligible, players must be aged 15 to 17 years and have lived in the eligible New South Wales regions (determined to be development AFL markets) for at least three years.

Scholarship players - who are free to sign with the club of their choice - receive a minimum scholarship of $10,000 per year (fully funded by the AFL) and can be upgraded to their aligned club’s Primary or Rookie List once they attain draft age.

“Josh is a hard working midfielder, who recently impresses at the inaugural NSW/ACT Talent Camp at St Ignatius. Josh has been selected in the squad to represent NSW at the National Under 16 Championships to be played on the Gold Coast later this.â€

I've been through the official document for the program and it seem he just takes a spot on the senior list if we have or create one.

We can also rookie him if we have a free spot. Completely up to us and it doesn't discount us anything other than our bottom draft pick.

Also what are the complaints about him being 180 cms and 75 kgs? At 16 he'd be almost ready to play midfield when he gets here on those stats provided he's a decent player and has done the correct training and so forth.

I seem to recall an 18 year old kid coming in with similar stats... here's his profile.

http://carltonfc.com.au/default.asp?pg=players&spg=playerprofile&personid=358802

Not drawing a comparison, but those dimensions are certainly nothing to scoff at.

Deano I havent seen him play. Was supposed to watch the Penno v Campbelltown game on Sunday but didnt make it. He wasnt mentioned in any of their team sheets though, so I suspect he is only playing u16's at present.

I wonder when it comes to recruiting in the Sydney Metro are whether kids who get a look in are those in the rep sides or whether the recruiters look at all the kids?

Big problem with this system is historically there hasn't been a huge amount of talent to come out of NSW/ACT, so the clubs could be gobbling it all up prior to the draft. :P
