Footballers want the opportunity to win games and they are being denied that by inept coaching.
As I mentioned a few weeks ago, good coaches sense momentum and know how to take advantage.
Even though we were being outscored, we were playing some good positive footy from halfway through the first quarter.
We continued that in the second and had all the momentum at half time.
We came out after half time with a defensive set up.
Our centre square set up consisted of Ian Prendergast! Trent Sporn! and Kade Simpson.
In the first half Carlton won about 12 clearances and this trio had 1 between them.
Sporn was playing as a defensive midfielder through the game which was fair enough but for flowers sake, you have to have a ball winner involved.
Simmo is a peripheral runner and deserves a place in the middle but he should be in a rotation with Kouta, Stevens, Bentick or Scotland.
10 minutes in to the quarter, Adelaide have totally regained their momentum and the opportunity was lost.
Not only were their midfielders winning the ball but they were having shots at goal as well.
By the time Snoozy in the box woke up and bought Bentick on, the horse had bolted.
Dont even mention Lance lining up in the back half.
The inability to adapt is frustrating the hell out of me.
We actually played a quality style of game. We used the ball with a structure that we HAVE to play to succeed.
We held the ball up when required, kicked to the onleading short and kicked long only when we got to the centre.
We just need more practice doing it.
Blind Freddy (including myself) has been begging Pagan to play a game style relevant to this century.
This week we tried it at times. But it's going to take time.
We have been training to play a pig headed, archaic style of game for 3 years. Totally irrelevant to modern football.
Now that Denis has been dragged kicking and screaming in to the 21st century, it's going to take time for him to adapt and longer for the players to adapt.
When we call for rotations, we would expect the MC to have the brains to implement them properly.
Rotations are not playing a player in the midfield for a quarter and then resting him on a wing!
Rotations are 5, 10, 15 minute stints on the ball and then a rest.
But of course we cant use the bench.
Our bench is used to bring kids in to the side to pacify supporters and then keep them off the field.
Denis is all over the shop at the moment.
Last week he said the Tigers stole our thunder for tactics.
On Saturday he said tactics had nothing to do with Richmond winning, it was Adelaide having a bad day!
Funny that no one has a bad day against us.
No wonder the players are frustrated. They just want to win games of footy.
At least give them the opportunity to do so.
