The whole Jetta/Gibbs business is really out of our hands. The ladder and other clubs will decide who we ultimately aquire in the draft. What I do like the sound of is our interest in genuine midfield talent which is something I feel we really lack at the moment most of all.

As for needing to finish bottom to get Gibbs I'm not too bothered. We're likely to finish last or second last this year regardless and Gibbs would help fix our midfield while Hansen by most reports would be ready made to fix our defense. Gold either way.

best case is where we really want Gibbs, and Essendon* finish a spot below us in 16th and pick someone else

Both Gibbs and James Sellar and their fathers were in the Carlton rooms before and after the game in Adelaide. Good to see the club getting on the front foot!

while we're all fancifully considering possible ideal future lineups, if we DID get Gibbs, I would probably stick him on a halfback next season, in the Walker role, and use Walker in a more advanced position, on a wing or something... and Russell as a defensive midfielder

And if we got a quicker mid as well, like Jetta, we could run him off the bench in a rotation with Simpson and Betts, across the wings/half forward....

DROOL

If this thread is anything to go by, and indications that we are looking for mids in the draft (though, obviously, not exclusively and its WAY EARLY now.... but anyway - fanciful ideal futures time), then I think the club really should start giving our young talls (and esp defenders) a taste of the firsts.... try Kennedy in a few roles and give games to Hartlett and Bower when fit... and potentially Edwards too if he kicks on a bit.. and O'hAilpin potentially too in a number of roles, back and forward.

No more Saddington AT ALL... tell Livo he has 6 weeks in the firsts to stand up and play him in all 6... if he swims GREAT! if not then Bower or Hartlett should be in line to step him and Livo is gone for good.

NO MORE SADDINGTON! BOWER! HARTLETT! O'hAILPIN! KENNEDY MAYBE DOWN BACK!!!!!

GET EXPERIENCE INTO THE TALLS AND THEN PICK MIDFIELDERS!!!!

AND SACK PAGAN!!!

SPILL THE BOARD!!!!

YES!!! A PLAN TO GET EXCITED ABOUT!!!!!

Maybe our esteemed DOA can answer this question for us.

With the Draft system the way it is at the moment unless a club is trying to court a player away from nominating as a Father/Son Rule eg Marc Murphy, does it make any difference these days to invite prospective players and their parents into the rooms before games.

If you take a bald look at the AFL's Draft Rules - you haven't got a choice where you go (unless you have a Father/Son option).

DOA whats your opinion on that as you are only person around here who can give us an educated opinion.

This is a serious question BTW and I am not taking the piss.

Some good ideas there.

I would like to see Kennedy play down back for a bit when he is fitter. Just to see if he can do the role. Maybe on a lesser foreard like a Petrie or Damon White or someone like that. Not on a gun but to see how he reacts and what is his anticipation like.
Like I said in another post. Might help with the chess pices before the draft if we get an idea about his chances of making it down back. Then picking Sellar or Gumbleton first up as a CHF might be easier and we will have more options.
Instead of picking them and working it out later.

Not that we have much of an idea about it after a few games but at least something. I would be tempted to try Bower at the end of the year if he gets fit again and his form is good in the VFL. Especially if he adds some kgs after the knee clean up and works on his upper body.
Just to give us a little bit iof a window into these 2 kids and how they look before we have to make a tough choice about who tot ake in the draft first up.
Same with trying AW on the ball and wing to see if his football smarts have improved after tagging last year.

Hartlett I would like to see at full forward in the seniors at the end of the year with Fev as a bit of a decoy at times for a quater or 2 and see how he handles it. Then swap it around and try Hartlett in the pocket.
Even a run at CHF with Lance next to him on the flank giving some instructions.

Or Lance at CHB, Fev at FF for every game and every minute. AW on the HBF and Kennedy on the bench and a whole lot of ???? at the end of the year without even starting the process of development.

Tough choice really.

Problem is its not really.

For those worried about players height....Diesel was 176cm.

Ability is the key,not height; for a midfielder.
