its not kouta's fault he earns so much anyone would happily take a mil a year for 5 years its the clubs fault for making a stupid decision like that and now we're paying the price for it hopefully we've learnt our lesson

Different eras Synbad. Chalk and Cheese Doullie and Kouta unfrotunately.

Kouta was a good servant of the club and an inspiration at times. He should never have been made captain as he was on the way down as a player not up and I don't ever really seeing him being the general on the field. He lets his play speak for himself which is one style, but I think I would prefer to have someone with a football brain that can articulate that to others. And My God have we really hit the bottom of the special comments bucket if we get Kouta doings special comments. For mine he totally lacks any media savvy.

And you can't blame him for his contract. He was probably underpaid for his great performances and overpaid for his ordinary/nothing-type performances.

No one can say that the man has not bled blue for the club, but unfortunately if he was playing in the 80's he would have been playing for St Kilda for the last two years.

But were broke.. and apart from Elliot no man has contributed more to us being broke than the Kouta... hes skinned us like no other player in the history of this club...

Not if it leads to the company to be closed down.. and all my co workers to be [REDACTED].!!!

Its a salary cap u know?
That means each unproductive buck i get it stops the club from getting stronger...

and those 4 years were absoluteley brilliant.......... The guy is a champ on and off the field how can anyone put down a club champion like Kouta is exactly a reflection how much a mess this club is

No one realises how much the death of his father effected him and his family.

We should have just paid him the big bucks under the table like the rest of him, that way when he squeals he gets nothing.

He was a franchise player at one time, just goes to show you how much our franchise is worth... It like owning a McKewen's when Bunnings is just around the corner.

I cant believe some of the crap i am reading........ no wonder why we are the laughing stock amongst supporters could you imagine if they read some of this crap.

Kouta at his best was just amazing to watch...... i have not seen anyone dominate games like he did the one handed pick ups, run through the middle, round house hand ball, mark up forward then the next second his taking a couragous mark down back.

BRILLIANT KOUTA ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT!

You sound like Pagan... "Noone will ever understand how much.. blah blah blah..."

Look its a very cut throat business...

You either are performing or you aint....

The refection on how bad were going is when we have to go to the AFL to get money to pay a guy that is shit!!!... and he is the highest paid player in the AFL and has been for 5 or 6 years and he has only been very good for one of those 6 years..

Thats whats a reflection of the state of this footy club..

But then again.. im having to explain the cold realities of life to you...

mate we all know what a blunder the previous administration made by signing him to that deal....... MOVE ON

We have to pay upto 92.5% of the salary cap, so you take away koutas half mill and pay Chambers an extra 30k

I dont understand why you are so bitter especially over something so pitty you sound like a high scholl girl bitchin on and on.

Kouta has taken a hefty pay cut and Synbad i suggest you have a chat with Kouta and ask him how much this club means to him, then tell him how shit of a player you think he is

Be a man Synbad.........

So its a blunder Kouta is on that much???

What you dont get is were paying OVER the salary cap.

Which means were paying the salary cap.. plus 500k outside of the salary cap for Koutas veteran list status...

And thats 500k we dont have...

So while Kouta is doing the Cliffy Young shuffle around the centre square.. One of our major sponsors is paying for that... insteqad of the debt.

Cant Kouta do the honourable thing???

Like buy the global sattelite trekking strap on thinggies that Mathieson donated???.. $20k .. or something????

Anything????

Like he cant play footy... can he be a player sponsor or something with all that cash!!... i see a few of our rookies dont have a full compliment of player sponsors... maybe sponsor Batson???

Just something constructive for the club while he sponges the millions???

At the end of this year, we will be better off around $1m for not paying Kouta, as he will retire- yes he will peoples. :-D

Then again, we still have to pay 92.5% of the salary cap as a minimum

I was always led to believe that the white elephant (the Grandstand) was the culprit that has and is sucking up our surplus dollars since '96 (10 years). What's the result of this decision today? Well after sucking all the AFL funds to wipe off $4M off the principal and leaving us with no cash reserves...$700Kpa in interest alone, plus $1.8M upkeep pa.

In hindsight building it without the council supporting car park development was a stupid idea, but then again the AFL supported the improvements and considered that the ground had a future. The AFL washed its hands, courted the Dome and left us holding the baby.

Kouta was worth the money when he was signed. It's just bad luck that he did his knee. I'm sure an injury free Kouta would have earned his keep. That's just the risk in this game that all clubs live with. Shit happens.

Oh yeah, as for the cheating and breach of the salary cap, only two names were associated with that and neither of the two were Kouta.

Alot of shit has happened to get us in this situation and Kouta is not the responsible for any of it. The club must take ownership of the issues, and perilous state we're in...and remenber that the agreed contract was agreed to by both parties, and that's all there is to it. Why should he not take the money? I would, and in doing that I would be honouring the contract. It's there for all to see in Black and White!!

Look at the end of the year, following his retirement (or whatever) we will have freed up $1M and whether we use 92% or 100% of it, we'll be betteroff. The debt however when Kouta is gone, will still be there...unless the AFL takes ownership (in one form or another) as it is in part responsible for our situation; not Kouta.

A contract is a contract, he has taken a huge slice off of his pay already and that was added to an extra year. So this year Kouta is on 500k 50% of that is 250k that goes under the salary cap.

Like i said go and ask the man how much he has given back to the club, i mean financially you will be surprised. So dont be going making outlandish statements about his contract when its obvious you dont know a thing

It's fair to assume that most if not all of the 15 other clubs would of offered kouta 1mill ( or thereabouts) to play for them after 2000 .. so i guess we had to come up with something extraordinary to keep him at the club

which played into dave allisons hands of course ..

I'd rather kouta have the money then beauey !

.. go kouta ..

.. go blues ...
