GWS, you cant out a dollar value on a 'psyche' if its a positive.

The club has lost its soul over the last few seasons... the staue will go part of the way to reclaiming it .

Its symbolic nature can not be disputed and $$$ should not get in the way of a direction captured by a great Carlton moment ...embodying where we must be .
Each day the kids come in to train they will see that....and it should create inspiration .. one day we might have an AW statue (with one he actually holds) to symbolise the GREATEST ever comeback in this clubs history....

Past and Future

There should be a link... unfortunately we have snapped the band that bridges them and have been too focussed on the past to look to a future.

the statue can be a link into our future....

That's all well and good if it's part of a broader plan or the ground but if it's not and it's an isolated development then we've got buckley's of getting anyone to cough up for anything else.

Like I said - great idea if part of something bigger.

If we build a statue whilst we're crying poor we'll get hammered.

Definitely agree it should be the star on the Xmas tree and not the Xmas tree....

I think the statue is a great idea but after the place has been redeveloped - not before otherwise it may just become a symbol of our 'stuck in the past - ness'

Upgrade and at the unveiling the statue is unveiled not beforehand or its power will be diminished or ruined.

what about a giant box of salads Tyrant?

Great opportunity to redirect the focus on the great Carlton, it's greats and its role in football history/ folklore and away from Elliot, the penalties and the tarnished brand.

Sponsors will recognise that Carlton is not a brand in decline but represents the spirit of football. When/if it is unveiled the publicity would make corporate sponsors take notice of Carlton. Hey, maybe even influence a decision to throw money our way.

If at the time of the unveiling we are rising up the ladder, it would add to the momentum of positive hype. Marketing is hype, and we need to market our club in a positive light.

Build it and they will come, and for only $150K, the spirit of Carlton will be rekindled live on forever.

This is a fantastic idea.

Lets get the Grollo family involved and make it higher than Rialto.

Loved the moment of Jezza flying high - so much so, it has been my signature for every post that I've had on TBV/TC.....

This statue will be the link to the past for Carlton and a great marketing idea. Corporate Australia would get behind it if Carlton put the proposal ahead.

Tony DeBolfo & Jim Wilson are our men in the media for positive Carlton news - keep it up boys, we need as much as we can get.

Ok so here is the plan, place the statue in a hidden room behind all the pokies. The catch is you have to become a member to see it, but you also need to spin 5 Jezzas on the pokies to gain entry. Pay for itself it no time and solve the financial problems in one :-D

I think it's a great idea. I'd certainly be happy to match DeBolf's $100. My 5yo son loves the new Jezza CUB ad - he looks at me each time it's on & sreams "JESAULENKO - YOU BEAUTY!!!" & we crack up at each other laughing. I'm looking forward to him seeing the real thing.

We can turn it into a True Blue Aussie Icon for Asian Tourists by making it BIG... like the Big Pineapple.. The Big Sheep.. The Big Banana...The Big Worm.. and The Big Jezza ..

Wish I got to see Jezza play, sounds a bit like our own version of Garry Ablett.

Graham Smorgan last night mentioned that in around a week we should hear about the redevelopment plan. Didn't elaborate much more than that.

And something to add which all found hilarious were his words which sounded something like "And I was very excited when the state budget came out last night because, somewhere, in amoungst all of the writing & the figures, there is some budget set aside for the development. I'm not sure where but it's there somewhere". hmm..

Jezza was a freak.. and so was Crosswell.

And Walls was like Riewoldt only dirtier...

And Syd Jackson was like Winmar only not a headcase...
And Doull was like scarlett only better...

And Southby was better than all the fullbacks except SOS...

And Big nick was more inspirational than Kouta even...

Kouta was as good as anyone on his day but didnt do it for long enough.. kind of like Bosustow.

Bosustow was abit like Ablett , Jezza and Crosswell too...

Motley could have been better than the lot ...
Braddles was like Stevens only a heap better.

Johnston was abit like Voss... and was Vosses favourite player.. and Nathan Browns..

Jimmy Buckley was like Byron Pickett except didnt bother to even bump.. he just used his fist/elbows...

Piggy Harmes was like Ablett , Pickett and Plugger all rolled into one...

You can go on and on about our past greats...

Im hoping Walker can be the next genration of Jezza.Crosswell/Bosustow.
Murphy can be the next generation of Ashie/Naley/Gleeson.
Kennedy can be the next Sticks/Earl/Walls
Bower can be the next Sos
Flint the next Doull
Bentick the next Williams...
Davies the next Ratten...
Russell the next Glascott...

etc etc etc...

Somewhere in the State Budget was an allocation from the Department of Sport & Recreation for $50,000 for the redevelopment and extension of my son's junior football clubrooms.

It took us 3 years to get it and the State Government only matched our contribution dollar for dollar.

We had to sell a lot of snags, and coffee 8) , to get it I can tell you.

Its not like we have a mole in the Dept of Sport or something and a direct line to the ca$h or something...

this should be really hard.....
