9 games, 3 goals, 190cm, blonde wasn't he?

I'd put this up in Players but I can't post there.

I've checked with all my loser 80's buddies and we've drawn a blank on Matthews.

ps can someone design a Blueseum emoticon so I can just post that in places where people are actually talking about some interesting historical point that deserves recording?

Slightly undesized KPP with a good leap and big hands.
Recruited from Lilydale from memory.
IIRC, he then went on to Fitzroy and played a few games there.

Sorry Molsey. Thats all I've got.

(Possibly wore number 48 :?: )

thanks BV - listed as wearing 34 and 48, and yes, went on to Fitzroy.

So a KP - playing mostly forward? Or just a 'utility' KP like a Welsh type player?

More of a floating forward who could pinch hit in a KP.
Could take a big grab.

I believe he was traded to Fitzroy as part of the Williams trade.
(Kappler to Sydney, Sartori and Mathews to Fitzroy)

Looked like a prospect in the reserves . ne never really kicked on and became part of the williams deal also involving Kappler and simon Minton Connell..and probably a couple of others.

the girls were disappointed he was traded.

Was a bricklayer by trade, good mates with Jamie Dunlop, yes, did get traded to Fitzroy whilst under Parkin (I think). Tallish, slim blond-headed chap who played as a forward in the Hamill/Bradshaw mould. Certainly showed some solid glimpses of making it but just couldn't regualry bridge the gap b/w reserves and senior footy. May have been his penchance for the nightlife that didn't help his progress.

Saw him play a lot of Reserves footy and he was a fairly ordinary footballer at best.

A bit too skinny to make it as a key position player and a touch too small.

On the odd occasion took a nice mark.

was not developed by Parkin who ruined his career and so the kid, who should have been a superstar, faded into the ether. Bloody parkin!

Matthews did have 1 really good senior game - he went 3rd man up in the ruck a number of times and got the ball out each time. Can't remember who it was against, but it was out at Waverley.
He had a great leap but didn't have the body strength. His kicking was also not his strongest point, but adequate only. Had he been 3 inches taller he may have made it or a yard faster, but .....
He also had some relatives come done and play in the U19's(as he came up through the Unders himself).

Steve....I think you're talking about Adam Matthews, who we drafted in the '99 National Draft at pick 92 from the Murray Bushrangers.

He wore #38....D.O.B. 20-01-82; and was a 198cm and 88kg Ruckman from Corowa-Rutherglen U18; who was recruited hopefully to eventually fill Matthew Allan's spot in the side.

He got on the Senior List only to be delisted at the end of 2001; and placed on the Rookie list in 2002; when his season was badly disrupted by a shoulder injury; and only played a few Ressies games.

He was again delisted at the end of 2002, having played no Senior games.
