We have such an imaginative coach and match committee.

Great to see the youth policy is alive and working Denis. The Age in its game summation summed it up perfectly :?

Lets just keep playing the same old players who have failed us over the past 3 years. I have nothing against any of them personally. I'm sure they are great people who work hard. But does our illustrious and learned coach truly believe Wiggins, Sporn, Prendergast, Livingston and Teague represent the future of this club.

Plus the selection of Betts amuses me. He gets dropped one week, doesn't get to play for the Bullants, then is back in the side

As a Carlton supporter I say sorry to Blackwell, Kennedy, Russell etc. Then again, I suppose its best to go to the Ants. At least that team has some structure and direction and a game plan.

Any chance DP can be dropped for a few weeks so that he can get some tips on coaching........

ive learnt to understand the facts.
getting dennis across to carlton was a secret plan, hatched many years ago to indefinitely secure one Marc Murphy and Bryce Gibbs....

playing the likes of a Prenda, Sporn, longmuir and Banno keeps the morale up amongst the group.

Thats a good point. It shows any Carlton listed player will be rewarded with senior selection if they play well in the VFL, regardless of age or reputation.

This means the kids must continue to work hard rather than be just given a game fo the sake of it! The kids must deserve it.

Agreed.

While it is a great theory to 'keep playing the kids', I have a strong belief in being patient, and not having young bodies get beaten up on a weekly basis, both physically and mentally.

There are very few 18-19 year-olds who are ready for senior football, and plenty of players who went onto be champions had long spells in the reserves (Bruce Doull and Michael Tuck for examples).

Just because kids aren't being played every game, doesn't mean we have to become hysterical, nor does it mean they haven't been given the right preparation for their football careers. While there are things I query about Pagan's methods, his handling of youth over the years is impressive. Look at his time with North Melbourne, both as Under 19 and senior coach, and his record is unsurpassed.

While Terry Wallace maybe getting good performances out of Hyde, who's to say it wasn't due to how he was educated by his previous coach that allowed him to blossom?

While we all want to see our young players become stars as fast as possible, the occasional spell in the reserves won't do them any harm.

I would have thought Russell should be in the side.

Would Jack Worall, Ballistic Blues, etc stop bringing logic to this debate please! Go somewhere else - you certainly don't belong on TC at the moment :)

i agree that if younger players play a few bad games in the seniors they should be sent back for 1 or 2 weeks and be made to earn their position and now that they've got a taste for it they'd want more but if your going to drop young players then you should bring in young players as well i cant believe longmuir gets a game and i think eddie betts is really overrated i havent seen anything special ffrom him every goal his kicked has been a cheap one (blood rule, 50m penalty, advantage) he duznt spark our team like a leon davis or an aaron davey

Russell should be in and there isn't any logic in selecting Sporn to play unless he's going to be there next year. I'm struggling to find an opponent because there isn't anyone who he can match up on and beat given his lack of pace.

Well that's why they're playing him- to determine whether he'll be there next year. If he keeps playing as he has so far this year he won't be. Russell will then get his chance.

My only problem with that logic BlueWorld is that I used it to get through on 2005! I thought Sporn, Wiggler, Bannister, Longmuir, Chambers, Davies etc. were only getting games to see if they would be retained for 2006!

Its groundhog year!
