Its not just about draft picks but about the AFL making new policies for teams that suffer due to management failure. Like us. We aren't a traditional CBF club but arguably need assistance more than them.

By not playing your juniors and running out with 6 guys who shouldn't be at AFL level, what do you do? Prove tha basket case hypothesis?

The alternative view is that our Match Committee has lost the plot entirely.

Nothing better than an early pick first thing in the morning

Don't worry you will see the AFL assisting Essendon* and Carlton in so many ways once Eddie starts whinging that they aren't drawing 80,000+ for the traditional Blockbuster games as Essendon* and Carlton wallow down the bottom reaches of the ladder.

The fixture is not a draw but a way of maximizing revenue.

Ohh Supertanking just like Hawthorn did in the last 2 years and appears to be doing again this year. Collingwood does the tank well - 3 PP's in 6 years - nice going.

So what you're saying is: if we want to get a PP, we should stop going to the footy?

DONE AND DONE

How many more years do you expect us to be shite and "tank"?

Will we be having this same conversation in three years time = 4 years time?

Just one more year of finishing shite ... just one more year. i promise.

I think williams is right. you build confidence by winning games. you build a team by winning.

Hawthorn are trying to move on up and look how difficult it is with them.
once you have been shite for a long time.. .it takes a long time to turn it around. Look at Hawthorn - it will take many years for them to be a contender.

We definitely didn't tank in 2004.

Did we in 2005? I know we were bad, but not sure we tanked?

Just consider the question:

Is 2006 the best year in history to appear woeful in all facets given a) the superdraft and b) the AFL about to pull in multi squillion dollars?

Of course it makes a mockery out of us fans turning up, and particularly for me, a mockery of all the time I give to the Club. I had a chat to a few people about this belief and they point out that at least the history elements are eternal, so I shouldn't feel like I'm being used (but technically all volunteers are). So I'm happy with that.

I'm not advocating not going to the footy - market forces will decide that, and unfortunately that is the way the AFL wants to run that "part" of the business.

Its only the "production" side of the business that AFL wants to run like a communist dictatorship.

We need to grasp what the club will achieve if they win 4 games or less.
It is not about jockeying for position at the head of the draft.
It is about presenting a set of results that will convince the bastards at the AFL that we not only need but deserve a priority pick at PICK 1 in the draft

It would help our cause if we finished last but the scum have no chance of qualifying for a pre-1st round priority pick because they managed 8 wins in 2005. Carlton on the other hand are borderline on whether we can obtain this as there will be a strong case at hand if we manage 3-4 wins this year, coupled with our 4.5 wins last year, on-going issues with being able to be competitive on and off the field, etc. to convince the AFL. The writing of the rule is ambiguous enough to mount a challenge. The AFL would be concerned enough, if we finish last, to do something urgent to turn things around. And 2 star recruits at the head of a super draft will offer priceless hope and insiration

Is our board desperate enough to convince the AFL comission of this???
I wouldn't be holding my breath.
Current board is a disgrace and a rabble

Well that might explain the SUPER TANK!!!

I think the AFL will give it very serious consideration. They are starting to realise the implications of a football club left in the doldrums for too long. It is not in their interests. A club with the potential to draw 35K+ members, 80K+ crowds against the big clubs when on song is an important asset to have. However, letting it rot like they have with their draconian and outrageous penalties and disenfranchising the clubs supporters to the point where they no longer attend games or buy memberships is the worst case scenario and one which is coming to fruition.

Not only are we Carlton supporters shocked at the extent of our demise, but so are the ar$eholes at the AFL I think.

Marciblue, I think you should write a letter to both the CFC and also the AFL. I genuinely mean that. Somebody needs to do this, and you are good with words.

Until we make up for the salary cap penalties and O'Rielly and Mansfield.

10 meaningless wins - not knocking Russell or Hartlett, as they both may play 200 games with the club - but a Deledio would have come in real handy.
