I agree with what Pagan has to say about the development of youngsters in this article, however Jordan Russell should be played this week.

"We can win..." :?

Perhaps the mods could merge this thread with the "Little bit of Humour" thread.

Well acting as Mr Positive West Coast might come out flat at a tack after the Geelong come back. Without Judd to ignite them if we jump them at the start a chance we are.

Acting as Mr Realist another 10 goal loss.

He says this every week. And every week we lose.

I thought Pagan's view was pretty honest. Take out Kouta and it's a very very young squad.

We've got groups of players, in their teens, early 20's, mid 20's and Whitnall 27, Lappin 30, French 31 and Kouta 32. Bloody young, and young bodies are that aren't fully developed; in height and weight (let alone the skill to play at elite level; to our expectations).

But it was against the eagles we played on a hot balmy night, (them without Cousins, Kerr and Judd) that this team of ours beat them!!

This time it's on their turf (with the inclusion of Cousins and Kerr), and they're playing hot footy. In fact, hey kicked 8 goals in the last quarter last week after they had been battered from pillar to post, but they still have to beat us. We're one up on the eagles in 2006.

If the eagles are not on their game (without Judd) Carlton can pull off a 'miracle' win. Why not? It's not the first time an upset has happened.

All our older guys are not helping our team much atm (Whitnall is not old, he's peaking), and it's the groups of guys mid 20's and kids in the early 20's that are carrying this group, and one teen star. So it wouldn't really be fair to expect the group still in their teens (first years of their footy career) to have to 'survive' in the seniors without much support. Pagan's right about the potential for damage.

Nevertheless, the eagles owe us, and that's in the back of their minds. That alone is incentive enough to beat us. On form they are perhaps a 20 goal better team, and playing on their own turf (a very big ground) definetely favours them.

Carlton have 'proven' they can win. Pagan's right, Carlton have won many quarters and halves this year, therefore it's believable that if the 'cards' fall our way against the eagles we could win.

There are two big questions I have in his ability to coach us a win on this ground. Will he rotate the players on the big ground? Does he understand the strategy of rotations? Pagan holds the 'cards'.

It's one thing to be positive Rhys, that's great, but we won't beat them by that much. :P

Good post! I tink the $9 offered by bookmakers for this match are definately over. Then again, I would be happy with a loss less than 60 ponis - what a shocking sign of the times.

I'm with Pagan on this one. I will be putting 50 AUD on the blueboys to win this weekend. For one getting those odds in a two orse race is just amazing. And I have a source at the club... Yes I know I'm way over on the other side of the world but I have to give my amazing theory some credibility.

I heard that prior to the game Pagan is going to let the guys go go-carting (always a sure fire way to ensure a win). This week he is going to hand over the preparation to the players. He did this with some success in the Essendon* game and also he gave them control after half time in the Port game and we played much better in the second half.

We will also have some of the West Australian greats talk before the game. Spalding will address the players about improving their kicking, Buzza will address them on defensive skills and Fitzy can give one of those rousing captain's speeches.

All the ducks are in line for a huge Carlton win. Mark my words we will win, oh yes we will win.

Keep it real Sydney. There's no way we'll win by more than 16 goals.

Yeah, almost too good to be true those odds. Why not just plonk some money on? Potential gain far outweighs the potential loss (depending on how much faith you have in the Blues).

Plus, Eagles have a forward line that actually doesn't trouble our defence too much. Their backline always has trouble containing Fevola. Their midfield......well, lets not get into that. Somewhat contain their midfield and we are in with a chance.

Question is - do we have the fitness and endurance to keep up a hard-running, hard-tackling, shutting the game down gameplan for 4 quarters at Subiaco?

COME ON BLUES! This would make my year!
