Great news for the club and well done to those who rallied for it

But geesh Mr Bracks haven't you got more pressing problems with in the state that could have used that money. I bet the guy sitting for 6 hours in the emergency department of the local hospital is over the moon with you handing out tax payers money to badly run over paid pampered footballers and football clubs . Must be an election soon or either that he has been taking lessons of Bob Carr want to win a seat ,build or redevelop a football stadium . Meanwhile it takes the average person 2 hours to drive 30 kms in peak traffic .

Good news for the club

Piss poor by the state government

Nailed it in one, SB.

It just so happens there IS an election soon. Vague but impressive promises about large increases to the health and education budgets expected soon. Not to mention equally vague road and public transport funding proposals.

Still, after the vast waste of money that was the commonwealth games, I suppose it's not too bad that the one sport we all care about gets something from our tax dollars.

This way, when I pay my $45,000 in stamp duty to the state government (as I'm going to do any week now) I can console myself in the knowledge that a portion of it is going to the CFC...

Come off it Sydney.
The community facilities will assist healthy lifestyles and keep that guy out of hospital.

Prevention is best.

(Pass me some more straws)

Speaking of singing old songs, I caught about 5 minutes if some old B&W war flick the other day, and the snippet I happened to catch was a scene with a few soldier boys having a nice old sing along about some trollop from Laguna.

mrs camel and I sung along as well, with different words, of course.

;)

Yes the announcement is made on the eve of the elections...what's new? That's politics.

"More bang for your bucks"

"Kill 2 birds with one stone"

The football community, local communities and PR campaign to kick off the electioneering all served in one hit.

John M says
Quote:
...concerned that the words 'proposed' and 'potential' and 'a step closer' all appeared in the opening paragraph of the club's press release?

Fair enough to be suspicious of politicians, but this has been on the table for 3-4 years. It hasn't happened overnight. There are many stakeholders in this package, and naturally it would take time to line up all the ducks. Furthermore it is official now after the announcement, and a necassary measure; perhaps some modifications may be required to meet 'unforeseen/'overlooked' building regulations.

As for the MCC's contribution in the whole package $4M/$55M, where the contributions in their municipality alone from other parties is in the vicinity of $15M for their $4M. I think it would not be prudent of them to ignore such an injection of capital from external parties. What option do they have? Let the buildings further deteriorate and fall down, injure people, or alternatively close them down as unsafe? I think it would be unsafe for them not to toe the line. They're stitched up whether they like it or not. Being politicians themselves (MCC) they too want their 5 mins of fame.

But Tommi it's not just the building, it's what it symbolises. Imo the most significant announcement was Demetrious publicly stating that Carlton will be around for a very long time, and are considered an important contributor to the economic and social fabric of Victoria. Over the last 2 months we have been shitting ourselves about the precarious situation regarding our existence, let alone our survival in Victoria, as the Carlton Blues. Very significant!

Sydney Blue says:

.

I wish we had Melbourne's road/transport system. Bracks and Carr ...no comparison...Carr sold his soul to the devil's bank. He's the biggest prick (to be exposed) of all time!!

It's a great thing for the club and whilst there are still a huge number of things facing us relating to board, coaching and on-field issues I do find it extremely amusing that there are people in here looking for the clouds in the silver lining...

There's a survey that economists like to do when they wish to point out how pathetic we really are.

It goes like this:

Which of the following would you prefer?

A). Everyone (including you) gets a $50,000 payrise

or

B). You get a $25,000 payrise

Over and over again the majority chooses B.

[REDACTED] isn't it?

Don't feel bad - it just means that you're one of the majority.

Which is mildly disturbing...
